some more, it will have motor/ box fitted this weekend ,hopefully , just have to cut rear engine mounts out of old wagon rear and weld them in so I can run irs, and maybe chuck in a wiring harness.

If anyone knows where the parts for this car ended up it would help mainly vent controls and chrome for them oh and ashtray. There will be more depends on what i cant find in my hoard of parts.

>just have to cut rear engine mounts out of old wagon rear and weld them in so I can run irs<

Why not get a swing axle rear and weld on the inner suspension points. Much stronger engine mounting than the later double joint rear end with those mounts on the inner quarters. I think Vintage VW have the bits to weld on, maybe others as well.

You see, I still resist the term "IRS" to describe the later ones as ALL VWs have IRS. When the new suspension came out it was sold as the "double joint rear suspension"!

The two guys who last had AP Spares at Rivo tried desperatley for 6 months to get me to take that car home in the late 90s but I already had a 69 Notch on the road as well as the current 1500S there for resto. No room for another one. Good luck and keep us all posted on progress.

There are still (I think!) some of those early shape FB in a yard at Riverstone so there maybe some useful bits IF you can get the weird owner to sell them to you.

Yep Dave nad Phillip that owned AP Spares ( no longer a business) had this car. They tried to get me to take it too. I took the blue square hey had. They said I could have this fasy for free but I had no where to put it. Paul from Rivo electirc took it and it sat in his yard for years.

Paul offerd it to me before he moved but Mikki got there first. Oh well. Still goo o see you got it together.

I vaguely remeber AP Spare stripping it to the shell. Their business got bought out buy ASV (at villawood i think) they are. They put everything in the dumpster. So much good stuff went to waste.

John at the Rivo wrekers definitely has one in there. You can see if from the fence. Good luck gettgin anythign out of there without mortageing your house. He is basically a joke.

I remember the Square. Did you get it going? Looked like a fair bit of rust at front of left wheel at the time. There was a good METAL hinge cover which I got from that one with thoughts of an "S" Variant down the track but ended up giving it to someone years ago.

If I'm going past and John is there I'll see if I can have a look again now the snakes will be asleep! There were 2 early ones straight in and one up the hill a bit nearer to the road.

'tis a pitty Klaus as I gave some re-covered Z armrests to a guy in QLD as well as a rear seat backrest with centre armrest for that model.

As Typeone says, John wants an arm and leg for some things as he thinks his rusty junk is still worth a fortune!

I was actually thingking of cutting the frame horns and welding them onto an cv joint (better now he he) subframe so as not to stuff around with rear end geometry and also so I dont have to make up more jigs.
At this stage I just want to get it complete as possible and running so stock mounts will do the job nicely as they wont cost a thing. As I hope to sell the fasty to someone at a cheap price so it can be back on the road and not crushed or sitting in a yard.

I think it would be easier with just the inner location bits welded on. Less welding and less distortion. I guess it depends on how much time you are spending on it . Good to see it going back together. How did you go with the footwell heater vents. They seemed quite frozen when I last saw it.

Havent even checked , been busy enough trying to find missing parts, its sort of a sideline car while I'm debating whether or not to put a ej20t in splitty crewcab, and also what to do with 65 notch -bone stock or mid mount engine. Just really want to get it moving under its own power so it can sit out the front full of spares as I want to sell a 73 squareback that I have that has all my type 3 bits in.

Yeah still got the square. Looks exactly the same. Just sittign in the shed. It may get fixed or supply parts to my other square. Not sure. As tiem goes on the rust looks less and less compared to some cars. LOL. If you go to Johns give me a call 0403943588. I am just around the corner from him, drop in and say hi.

Would be good to see the fasty back on the road.
