Dave,

Never seen the plates before - interesting idea ........ home brew? What gauge steel are they made from? Have they been run in another bus (which would be a test for cracking and durability)

It looks like the axle tube has also been lengthened (but now doesn't need the end casting of course...).

Hmmm...interesting...wonder what the RWC boys here in VIC would think about it...

Hi Rob

Plates Have been run for years in another bus and had no probs, they are made from 1/2 inch plate, bolt straight on to spring plates and to normal place on axle, you do have to grind away some of the metal round the area on the axle part if that makes sense.
Axles are standard beetle, brings the drum in about 3/4 inch, no problem as I am going to run wider standard rims.
In Adelaide the bus dooesnt need to be checked , can just take rego and get it registered,
Lucky me!!!!!!
Cheers
Dave.
Plates are available from Andrew at pmgbus@iprimus .com.au

Still fascinated by the adapter plate idea -

It looks great, but I bet all that POR-15 is costing you a packet!!! :thumb

57kombi - May 12th, 2003 at 04:31 PM

Hi Rob

It is set up for bus shocks, bottom mount is the one on the plates and the standard mount on the body.

Krusin,
The por 15 cost $200 for 4 litres,
Bus was shot blasted underneath then a mate Andrew sprayed the por on (yes he did get some on his nose and took the skin off trying to get it off), bus was rolled on its side to do the welding first, with one of Robs center chassis sections and outriggers and jacking points from Schofield in the U.K.(bought them last time I was there).
Por 15 is not UV stabilised (new stuff is but I bought mine months ago) and I have also painted the floor area inside, this will be covered over so the sun wont get to it.
Just waiting to do the hand brake cables as they need to be 1 inch longer than standard, will have to buy new ones and get new cables fitted.

You cant see but the previous owner filled in the semaphores, and welded then up, might get new sections welded in, or might leave it, not sure?
Cheers
Dave

Latest update.

Been a while,
I have finished the body work, trial fitted all doors and engine lid, all fit very nice.
Will be finishing the primer tomorrow and then the rubbing back begins.
I am using a 2pac urathane primer, bit harder to rub back but it is not porous and is very good.

Just trying to deciede on the colour , want it to be differant ???

Will get some pics tomorrow.

Cheers
Dave

57kombi - August 11th, 2004 at 05:23 PM

As you can see by the dates on the pics I havent done too much, I have straightened the long side a bit better but I dont want it too straight, this sounds stupid but if it was perfect I would be too scared to drive it.
This bus is going to be used as a camper and a weekender, I dont want it to be a show van.
The time has been spent doing the ribbed bumpers and sorting the doors out.I have also fitted some seatbelt mounts in the b pillars. I have also just got back from holiday in England and my bits have arrived from Schofields so I am now on a mission to get it finished.
Found my purchase reciept last week, I have had it for 3 years last April
I will be buying the paint this weekend and hopefully painting it next week.

Cheers
Dave
