low 56 oval daily driver
splitbusboy - September 9th, 2007 at 04:36 PM

Thought I'd finally get a pic up of one of my toys... This little bug was privately imported here from NZ where my wife and I travelled the country in it having a ball.
Running rebuilt 1600 twinport, late 1500 box, adjustable front (running just on 100mm off the deck) lowered rear a spline or two (can't remember), late 90's jap bucket seats with removed headrests to retain standard-ish look, empi short shifter (total must, best 100 bucks ever spent on it!) and a few period accessories and repro stuff but always after more... esp a roof rack and steel visor....
Loads of fun to drive, retractable belts up front and belts in rear with child safety seat restraints for safe family cruising!

yup, they are the whole light assemblies off my split bus, it doesn't need them for a while yet so I banged an indicator in them and threw them on, will replace the lenses with bug/oval ones when i get some in the future......

Cheers mate, we had a good time as spectators, we were very excited as it was the first vw show in Aussie we had taken the bug to and more importantly the first one we had taken our new little daughter to! We would have entered in the show but turned up 20 mins after entry close off, no lee way from the organisers there for an old dub a little late after packin up our new lil family and drivin over an hour to get there, but still, they gotta draw the line somewhere! Will leave much earlier next time...
Might head down to the gold coast one on the 11th nov maybe, see how we go!

Very nice toy love the look of the standard wheels SWEEEET, Can i ask how you put the blinkers in the headlights what type of blinker conections did you use and is this legal for rego, wouldnt it be hard to see the blinker at night with the headlights on??? thanks shane.

Shane, I just got some bulb holders from autobarn/supercheap for $3.00 each, drilled a hole in the light surround and glued them in from behind, the holders take a normal bayonet indicator bulb, as for legal, more legal than half the heaps of sh!t that drive around on the road where I live that have "roadworthies" well, a rego, same thing in this state...
They are definately noticable even at night with full beam, I retro fitted modern semi sealed halogen units in the old casing which have awesome reflectors in them which reflect alot of the indicator bulbs brightness, so the whole lamp assembly kinda lights up. I've seen loads of early beetles using this indicator set up, esp overseas, if the fuzz pull me indicators will be the least of my worries! (joking, the bug got a roadworthy as it is right now for compliance into the country before the headlight change) a 12 volt system with new halo's in the lenses is gotta be a step up in safety from the orig 6 volters, have been in stock early 6 volt dub which holding a candle out the window would have lit the road up more and it wouldn't have blown out either with the performance, hee hee!
Have got some 6.5" wide rims for the rear, still deciding on tyres, 205 60's or 195 60's or 205 55's... haven't ever had nor do I want guard rubbing....
