"DR KARL"
decked dubby - June 30th, 2008 at 10:29 AM

Found at the VW nationals, 25th May 08.

Was stripped back in 2001. All the parts were placed in the car. It sat under a tiny carport in the southern highlands for the next 7 years.

I wish the last owner had done something more to it. I'm pleased to see it's finally moved. What's in store for it DD?

Decklid was totally rusted off at the bottom. The car came with a donor lid, so the bottom was replaced. I then blended the lower paint so it now looks un-touched.

All mechanicals have been gone over. All new brakes, master cylinder, lines, wheel cylinders etc.

Engine is a 1500 from a 69 bug. All electrics are now 12v.

Dr Karl and a couple of hoods

Dr Karl celebrating rattiness - you can really see the hard work that Damo's done on that rear lid matching up the old, and older paint. Top job.

frank2112 - July 1st, 2008 at 09:53 PM

That is just awesome. I looked at this car at the Nats and thought it had potential but to see it back on the road in a month is unreal. Makes me look slack as I'm still trying to change engines after 3 months.

Yeah, had to pass a blue slip. Being that the semaphores are a standard item, as long as they work, they cant knock them back.

The plates, cant give away all my secrets.;)

Thanks mate. I actually didn't relise it was only a month. I was trying for the lawn bowling cruise actually. Worked till 4am sunday morning, then back up early and at it again. When people started to arrive it still hadn't been started and i was cranky and tired! The test drive was actually the cruise!
