vwsteve - July 17th, 2008 at 10:32 AM

This is why i hate fuel pumps with brass fittings, they blow out, it took 2 fire extinguishers to put it out, this was 1 week after i fully repaired and painted the engine bay and put all new chrome on the motor, spewing!

Any of the pumps and carbs can be cured of this hazard. As the brass tube is 6mm diameter, it is easy to pull the tubes out and tap with an M7 x 1 thread. Have someone turn new brass fittings with this thread on them and presto, problem of those &&##@@! brass fittings coming out of the pump and carby solved.

The problem can also be fixed by using lock wire around the hose clamp back to the carb or pump. Just doesn't look as neat.

DH

Sorry about the fire. Hope it's all back together again.

vwsteve - July 18th, 2008 at 02:42 PM

Yeh i know it can be fixed, like anything really if you are keen enough but this was the second car i own to have the same problem, the newer style pumps may not be as good quality but hey, they wont blow out, touch wood:blush:

Joel - July 18th, 2008 at 03:15 PM

and ppl think its over kill me carrying 2 fire extinguishers
well heres the proof in the pudding it may one day save ur cars life

vwsteve - July 18th, 2008 at 03:25 PM

yes exactly, i was going to mention anyone who has a small fire extinguisher get another , they only last 5 seconds and they are empty!

gellecan - July 18th, 2008 at 07:17 PM

With no fire protec blanket around fire wall you could have lost the hole car and i see you still have not put it in, sorry but tell will come then it will be to late i would hate to see another karmann of the road
