VWRX on 20's
reub - July 25th, 2008 at 05:47 PM

A mate had a couple of damaged 20" HSV rims (20x8's on the front and 20x9.5's on the rear). Thought I'd bolt em on vwrx for a look... excuse the dodgy photoshop tyres.

What do you think? I think they're too big - particularly on the front. 18's may be the way...Or maybe 18's on the front and 20's on the rear. Another problem is how small they make the brakes look.... hmmm

Go the life size hotwheels

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - July 25th, 2008 at 06:07 PM

I have been eyeing off a set of these to go under my van. ROH make a similiar style of wheel available in various sizes.

Man they would look very fat under your car!! but yeah they do make the brakes look kinda small!!

westi - July 25th, 2008 at 06:18 PM

20's front
22 rear
don't be a girl,get it happening.

Don't you dare!

Whats the point in flashy wheels if you have no engine?!!

VWFREAK - July 25th, 2008 at 08:11 PM

Crazy stuff Reub, but I agree with your comments. Your still a mad bastard.

Flintstones - July 25th, 2008 at 09:22 PM

18's and 20's would do the trick!!
20's on the front just look wrong on a beetle, especially with stock style guards
Cheers

Hi

I've seen a few bugs with wheels bigger than 18s that just get that Tonka toy look, you have to be careful with tyre selection, they need to be roughly about same diameter as stock tyres and the ride height needs to be right otherwise it just looks wrong, that's my opinion, other may disagree.

There is an LJ Torana getting around with late Commodore 17s and it looks like a toy car.

It's ok Dave engine is coming first. Have got a set of BBS rims which will do for now and I got them for nothing!! Brand new never been on a car.

Now back to engine building.....

Hey Reub looks hot but yea they are a tad on the big side
silver rims definately look good on it tho

anything bigger than 18s on a bug like steve said look like hotwheels toys
i also agree with him on tyre sizeing to
when i had 18s on my bug with 225/45 they looked huge
dropping to 215/35 which was similiar to stock tyre size fixed the problem

notch-72 - July 26th, 2008 at 07:30 PM

Looks sikk,Is it a MUST to get bigger brakes if your wheels are bigger then normal, 18's upwards? I understand why you would need bigger brakes, but yea is it a must?

Bizarre - July 27th, 2008 at 05:12 PM

TOO big - but i am an old bugger
Just looks wrong
Brakes look way too small

reub - July 27th, 2008 at 10:01 PM

:) thanks for everyones comments....

I'm not into these wheels specifically, just happened that a mate damaged them when hitting a large pot hole, so I thought I'd ask if I could put them on the bug to look at size (20x8's front and 20x9.5's rear) - not so much the style....

I'm very keen to put different size wheels (diameter) on the front and rear - just have to look into legalities with the standards - mind you, how many hotrods have the same overall diameter front to rear? Will see I guess...

As for style, the car has a strong 'boy racer' look. I've been looking into volk racing wheels etc but don't want to turn it into a drift looker :). Not yet decided, but definately am after a larger diameter wheel then the current 16" rims on the car, in particular due to the availability of 245/50R16 tyres for the rear.

Then regarding brakes, I'm contemplating a LARGE brake upgrade, and have been for ages, and it will no doubt happen, especially as I consider it underbraked for what the car is powered by.

Again, appreciate the feedback. Eventually I'll get around to the numerous upgrades planned for the car...just need to finish the house additions so I have a shed rather then just a covered space to do the work :)
