57 beetle project, OG car, the fun begins!
retroresto - August 8th, 2008 at 01:14 PM

Hi Guys thought i might put up one of my projects for everyone to look at. The car is a late 57 (big window) been stored for 30+ yrs, the car is remarkably clean and neve been smacked, minor rust but nothing structural. Since taking these pics of the tear down it has been removed from the pan put on a trolley and media blasted.

The plan is to respray in 2k,(Anthracite) dechromed, rewired,1 piece glass conversion and transfered onto my 69 IRS pan. I have built a 1968 (92x74) with a single 44 kadron kit already so it shouldnt take long once the body is painted.

Wheels will be 17x7.5 Porsche twist rims in 2k black..Narrowed front and drop spindles

Should be a nice driver, will Keep you all posted once the body work starts.

Cheers
Paul

Guys,

I've just applied the Texas Brown and variation of 2003 VW colour "mellow yellow" to body, pan is being steam cleaned in prep for new box, brakes etc. Stay tuned for next stage.

Cheers
Paul

Yeah Heath, you know how it is, you try to keep them but people keep buying them off you! But seriously im keen to hang on to it for now, i have a 1968cc for it and it should make for a nice ride, it will be low with painted 356 rims and whitewalls!

Hope I get to see it in November at the Port Adelaide gathering-looks good.

Turbo54 - October 3rd, 2008 at 09:19 AM

Very Cool Paul, would've been cool to not have the bumpers and taillights like a retro custom.
Can't wait to see it in the flesh.

Geez Paul you don't muck around. Looking great, love the brown

KaytieB - October 5th, 2008 at 08:11 PM

Its looking good. How long has that taken you so far?

retroresto - October 7th, 2008 at 08:55 AM

HI Everyone,

Thanks for all the positive feedback! So far it's taken me about 8 weeks from purchase, strip, media blast, body work, floor pan, change gearbaox to later type, new brakes drop spindles etc, i already has the motor so that saved some time, looking or hoping to get it done for the Adelaide Volksfest in late November. I need to completely rewire it as the loom was stuffed, headliner, upholster the seats and the rest of the interior as well.
P.S im also painting another guys car, building a house, working full time, so if i can stretch my time i might be in luck!

Cheers

Paul

retroresto - January 4th, 2009 at 12:54 PM

Hi All,

With a small change in the plan i decided to respray the whole car in a deeper Brown to match more to Texas Brown. I've also added a narrowed beam 145's on the front and some Sprintstars all round

Cheers

trickysimon - January 4th, 2009 at 04:37 PM

whatnow - January 4th, 2009 at 06:31 PM

you must be happy.

jh68 - January 4th, 2009 at 06:49 PM

schweet!

crsedge - January 6th, 2009 at 11:21 AM

Glad to see the rims go to good use, they look much better on your car with the paint colour than they did on ours!

Paul actually drove to Melbourne from SA, picked the rims up, and promptly drove back! That dedication is certainly reflected in the overall presentation of your car.

Well done!

Cheers

Craig
