My family of dubs,
1, Shantung Yellow 71 Notch (mine)
2, Spermaweis 70 Notch Automatic (the girlfriends')
3, Mustard Yellow 72 Super Bug (the old mans')
Bought the 71 Notch in October 07 off Ebay from a guy in Victoria. Drove down there to pick it up and drove it all the way back the next day with only
minor rocker gasket seal issues =). Has currently got us spec bumper overiders with rubber impact strips and vintage Marchal driving lights, clear
blinkers and 215 rubber with white wall inserts.
Engine is standard, aside form the kombi muffler someone previoulsy retrofitted to it.
70 notch is a sweet little runner, got it off Ebay for $1000 all up including delivery from SA. Recently added the Bugpack extractors after the old
muufler fell off while driving through Newcastle. Not sure of the engine size but it is significantly faster off the line than both the Superbug and
the other Notch, but runs out of steam by the time it hits 110 (3sp Auto who needs to go faster anyway). Rust all over the place, but I am slowly
nursing it back to into shape.
72 Superbeetle was bought some 8 years ago and was a great find, legitimate 20,000 original miles, old lady driver and totally rust free. Was recently
written off by the big 2007 hailstorm and has since been treated to a complete respray. Low mileage is not always a good thing, the old lady only ever
drove it to and from the bowlo, so there was some serious carbon build up in the heads. Our German friend Lutz is VW crazy and recently paid us a
visit. We picked him up form the airport at 10am, got home by 1130, he had the engine out by 2pm, dismantled by 6pm, replaced the rings, pistons, and
cleaned the heads by 10pm, had the motor put back together and running in the car by 3 the next afternoon, with a NOS German muffler (sounds like no
superbug ever built in OZ). That man is the Zen master of VW's.
All 3 have Km speedos and tacometers along with WORKING clocks (yes both type 3's have working clocks in the dash).
All 3 are daily drivers
Could go on for ages but we'll leave it at that for now.
Very nice collection you got there, good to see the whole family have good taste in cars??? cheers shane.
Not quite the whole family, my brother still drives a Ford, and I still own a VL which needs to go soon.
Beautiful collection! I'm jealous

Paul
Keep an eye out on German ebay for KPH speedos, I found mine that way. The Germans call a speedo a Tachometer, and they're readily available. There is a guy on ebay in SA that sells them, I've actually lost a few bidding wars with him for type 3 gear that I found on ebay.de, only to find it in his ebay shop a few weeks later for twice the price!! Good on him!!
Nice looking cars you have there.

These guages are cool as. They'll fit a type 3 dash (but they do belong in a type 34)
