I also have a Mk1 Golf in Auto, 1976 model

Had this a few years now and been a really good little car

The thing I like most about the Mk1 is the way it glues itself to the road, it is like driving a go-kart. you can drive very easily fast through a corner, turn in, hold onto the wheel and it just grips to the road.

It's like a little rally car, even with the 1.6 auto combination it has plenty of go in it.

I have had commodores behind me loose ground to the little Golf with its superior road holdind.

I get that feeling with mine too, not that I've driven much else or tested against others. Not much of a surprise though, as they weigh less than a beetle, while commodores handle like slugs... :D
