Hi all...
I have posted elsewhere on the forums but thought i'd go into more detail regarding plans for the car etc
Both my wife and i have owned VW's in the past when we lived in the UK. I had a 67 bug followed by a 69 bus and my wife had a 72 Beetle.
Fast forward 15 years and a move to Australia we get the urge to buy another Beetle as a 2nd car. We really wanted a pre-67 with sloping lights etc
and heard through a friend of a clean 66 for about $2000, which sounded perfect as we had a budget of $1800 due to Mr Rudd's stimulus payments, but
all of the Beetles we'd seen on Ebay that were any good were fetching $4000+ and that was out of our reach.
So we went to view the car and immediately spotted that this wasn't a 66 due to having upright lights etc.
Not sure how the confusion came about, but it is indeed a 68 somehow on paperwork as a 66. The car was too clean to be picky about the year and we
ended up buying her for $1800 with RWC. The paperwork includes the original service record from 1968.
I know a lot of people will hate me for it, but i intend to transform the car to match the paperwork by changing the front & rear valances, adding
sloping guards / / bonnet / boot / bumpers & lights and would also like to get the pre-67 fuel tank and weld up the outer flap. Also little things
like changing the speedo and adding the old fuel gauge.
If anyone has any info or can direct me to some posts regarding doing the above mods then i'd be really grateful. Also if anyone has any panels /
boot / lid / bumpers (or anything listed in my plans above) for sale then i'd love to hear from you.
Will keep this updated as and when things start to move ahead...might take a while though!
Many thanks
Neil
The car as bought (we have named her "bee-beep")!!
Bumper mounts etc all looking pretty clean
Inside the bonnet is pretty clean too. Deffo not what we were used to back in the UK anyway!!
HAHA!!! My old 67 bug!
My old 69 hi top bus!!!!
If I were you.... Id keep it as is.. but thats just me. really clean mate.

Spend some time cleaning this one up, sell it for a profit and buy the year you want.......
...snap!
my wife and I bought a very similar car a few years ago - this is what it looks like now. we used it as our wedding car.
Enjoy the ride!
Hi Neil
Looks like a good project car you have there, the earlier Beetle do look nicer, I agree.
At the end of the day you have to be happy with your car, and do with it as you want, just keep us posted with pictures and info on your work.

That Bug looks very clean and a great buy. I would also be more inclined to spruce it up and then sell later to get the model you prefer. Loks like an easy profit job.
Hmmm..
It's a tough one as i see what you guys are saying, but my only concern is that if we do this up and sell it for more we're still not going to have
enough for what we want.
Can anyone give me an indication of what sort of price would we have to pay to get a pre-67 in the same condition as what we've just bought?
but if you just modify this one, you still dont have what you really want. its like saying you wish you had a V8 crappadore.... but you just put on an ss body kit and v8 badges and different wheels.... you dont really have a V8.
I wish my beetle looked that good for $1800... Mine was $3800 and is no where near as good. You got a great deal there.
Bit of an update!
We've found somebody who will do us a deal on a 66, so Beep Beep is off to find a new owner.
Looking forward to getting stuck into our new project!
We'll miss Beep Beep as she's been a great little car in the few months we've had her!
So is it up for sale? If so how much?
