Hi Everyone,
I thought I'd say hi and share my new project. I picked this up last weekend. Been sitting in a shed in NE victoria for over 20 years. No rust (other
than surface rust). Last rego 1988. Everything is complete (pretty much). Few dented panels but looks like it's going to be fun.
I'm pretty sure its a 63 (people can tell me different), rego'd as a 64 but I always thought that the body colour (turquoise) was stopped after 63.
Thanks Nick
Looks nice and original ... well done!
What are the plans for it?
Nice one
What is happening to its brother sitting beside it??
they look like twins
I hope you havent seperated the poor darlings
nice score
cant be to many more shed finds left out there like that
put up the chassis number, we'll soon tell you what year but it looks like a 64
its certainly newer than 63 unless alot of parts have been changed
I hope I haven't unleashed some bad spirits by removing the beetle from his little friend. They've been sitting there for many many years together.
It was quite strange to open the shed for the first time to see 2 cars, same colour, same amount of dirt on them sitting there waiting.
I'll put the chassis # up when I get a chance, would really like to know the yeah model.......and to see if anything has been changed/replaced.
This is my first beetle, after owning mostly type3's. I think at this stage, I'm going to work on the pan+engine - mechanicals first. Then new
interior. We think we'll do all of the resto except leave the body/paint, I like the idea of leaving that in original, untouched condition with the
rest of the car cleaned up.......that's the idea for now anyway........We'll see
thats sweet man! love that colour
I like the sound of your plans too..
good luck with the resto
Cool mate, congrats,I just sold my Turquoise 63 (a VERY sad day).
The only thing i can see that isnt original for a 63 is the front indicators are the wide ones on yours.
Mine had thinner ones width wise,I'm told by more experienced vw owners (i'm a 6 month newbie) that the slimmer ones are correct which i personally
think look better.
Cheers
Lee
Cool looking bug nick_and ! I like your plans with keeping the exterior original looking. I remember my grandmother having a turquoise 1965 1300
Beetle from new, so I'm not certain when turquoise was deleted from VW's colour chart. I agree with Lee I have a 62/63 and it still has the slimmer
front indicators which I also prefer. Does it have the small or wider rear rego plate light housing? 1964 saw the wider rear rego plate light
housing.
Cheers
Greg
63 was also the last year for 3colour crest, stale air heating and the slim blinkers as already mentioned which your bugs hasnt got
its got the small popes nose which is interesting
pretty sure all the above changes happened in early 64
Thanks for the comments everyone. I'll post the chassis number when I get a chance. I'm starting the think it is a 64 model - from what I can see
all of the indicators etc are original, I was just thrown by the colour (and thinking that turquoise finished in 63 - looking at the colour charts on
samba).
Heres a couple of extra pictures. We polished one side to have a look and started to removed the interior. New carpets, head lining and then door
cards and seat covers coming up. Going to try to knock out the dings but not repaint.
nice find mate, should head over to melburgluft.com and post some pics..
agree with keeping the O.G paint.. coming up a treat..
Nice find there dude
Paints coming up a treat and dentmaster should be able to pull most those dings out.
the paint lists on the samba don't really relate to australian colours. try in2vw's site it is really helpful for things like that.

have a look at the back of the speedo and fuel gauge. there will be a date stamp for when they were made, which would have been within a month prior
(at a guess) to the car being built.
correction. just read here http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=76189 that the australian model year changed in feb/march of the next
year so up to 2/3 64 is a '63 model.
mmmm nice slam n drive
very nice. I got a 1960 turquoise standard bug and have the same plans.
Great score mate. Just need a few inches taken out of the height and a nice set of rims
Should have got em both slam one and leave the other standard. The second one looks like it has the flash trim on it.
Well i guess it's been nearly 4 years anything is possible
Ha prob should have looked at the date
Maybe it's in the other shed. Still
Any updates
I'd recon it has been restored by now......re-stored in another shed.
Must be done now.
