Thought it was about time to share some of my photos. Bought this car about 4 years ago on Ebay and it was down in Gympie. You may have seen my letter
to the editor in VWMA (issue 17). My car has just undertaken major rust repairs and a full respray so i thought i would share with you all. It was in
the panel beaters for close to 4 months and i only just got it back last friday and i entered it in the local car show and it ended up winning best
European! Will add more pics when im in the mood.

looks good
As you can see she had a bit of rust in her here are some more pics of the
rust damage.....
here is a pic of under the fender on the body. big chunk of metal cut out (rust)
this was full of bog!
here is a pic of some fresh metal welded in (right at the back of the floorpan-passenger side)
and this is what it looks like from the other side...
as you can see major issues with passenger side footwell/wheel arch area...
no passenger floor (so much rust on the old one)
brand new passenger side floorpan welded into place...
anyways those are basically the major issues that were sorted out in the panel beaters (nasty i know!). will add some more pics later on of how she
looks right now
And this is how it looks right now! these pics are taken from the car show where it won best European car on display just 2 days after coming out of
the panel beaters!!! The colour is called Deep Blue Pearl which is off the VW R models (R32,R36,R50) and the white is also a modern VW colour
(Campanella White).
As you can see in this photo i have the quietpack exhaust fitted
And here is the award i won for my car
I will take some more 'Glamor' shots when she has had a full service and tune up and post a few here Hope you like.
WOW!!!!! what a beautiful bug, its...... simply perfect! Did you keep the original engine (and give it a clean up), or did you replace it?
Just amazing
No the engine that is in it at the moment is out of a 72 Superbeetle. I bought a 72 super about a year ago for $500 and took the engine out and
swapped it with the 73 super engine. It is a stock 1600 but she seems to be alot better than the original engine. Although my mechanic has told me i
will need a brand new engine in the not to distant future. he said one of the pistons is starting to wear and everything on that engine is aging
so.....
Here is a picture of the engine that is in her at this very moment. This photo was taken just after we took it out of the 72 and cleaned it up a
bit.....
I don't think i have ever seen a 2 tone superbug. Look awesome mate
Thanks Dave Yeh I like the two tone look. Just a pitty the whitewall flappers i bought for it didnt want to stay on. They came flying off as soon as i drove it I still think it looks good with the chrome wheels though. Im the only one in Cairns from what i have seen with a two tone beetle
You should get them painted on. Some guy called redwall or something does them pretty cheap so their might be someone up there doing them
yeh there is a guy in Townsville that does them and he comes to Cairns every few weeks but he is very expensive and the rings he paints on are very thin (like 10mm). I'd like at least a 1 inch whitewall (like my first pic)
yeah you definately need fat ones. Oh well. Looks great as it is anyway. Congrats on the trophy
Wow it looks amazing! Did you have trouble finding a panel beater who would do the job?
thanks guys. Yeh i had some trouble finding a panel beater. I was gathering quotes for a good 2 months and heaps of panel beaters took one glance at it and turned me away from what i can gather alot of panel beaters don't like working on old cars. I guess they prefer the modern era cars where you can just find readily available parts and everything is pretty straight forward. It was worth the wait though! Still a few things i gotta fix like the wiper washer hole, interior, sound system etc but she is good for now
