Thats hot :tu:

spdterence - October 20th, 2009 at 06:34 PM

Welcome to the forum mate. I think I have seen that little dude advertised in Baulkham Hills - which is where we are - if you see me about you know the drill - flash of lights and wave are mandatory! Terry

Ollie - October 20th, 2009 at 06:48 PM

Bingo! Yeah picked it up on the weekend - slowly getting used to driving it!

And yes, the Bug wave is a def. Mandatory!

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to get the fuel gauge more accurate? Mine goes from empty to full whenever it pleases!?

ang3lsholocaust - October 20th, 2009 at 06:50 PM

F&@* Yeah that is hot!!!
Well done on your new ride, very very sweet score.
Welcome to the vw nut house as well

Jess:lol:

Scarab - October 20th, 2009 at 07:01 PM

Hey nice bug! Good score!

I don't know a great deal about bugs in particular (type 3's are my bag) but your fuel gauge issue sounds a bit like a bad earth on the sender possibly......
.......dont forget, this advice is coming from a definite non-expert on bugs!

All the best with your bug, and happy dubbing!

Scarab (aka: Paul)

Ollie - October 20th, 2009 at 07:06 PM

Cheers Paul! I'll check into that asap - I'm going to have to resort to driving around with a full Jerry can just incase I misinterpret the fuel gauge!

I'm super keen to start heading on some cruises when they're around, just need to sort out a few niggles before then!
Glad you all like it!

Come for a drive to sunny sunny bowral on sunday,, there is a car show begining at 9 get there at 8

There is a few bugs going.

Just puttin it out there cause that is one good looking bug

Joel - October 20th, 2009 at 08:00 PM

would be much easier to just fill up every 200miles

can you elaborate abit more on what its doing?

when i first bought my current bug when the tank was above half a tank ithe guage worked fine but just used to go to empty when going around corners

once it got below half it only worked when driving up hill

i found there was a break in the windings on my float sender. new float did the trick

Bizarre - October 20th, 2009 at 08:12 PM

Love the colour

Nice pick up :tu:

Ollie - October 21st, 2009 at 10:41 PM

Ah good idea! Funnily enough someone said the same thing to me today! That is a must do (it's on my list now).
Cheers.

P.S. What car show is down in Bowral this weekend? How many Dub's heading in? I'm quite keen!

71-BEETLE-SEDAN - October 22nd, 2009 at 05:54 AM

Its The Chevalier Colege (which is my school) Fete. Every year they have this they host the highlands motorfest as well.

I dont think thereis any prizes or anything but i went last year and there would have been around 8 or 9 bugs there i think cant really remember that welll.

There is a thread with the info in te club chat forum.

Hope you can make it cause its normally a preety goog day.

navis - October 23rd, 2009 at 05:48 PM

Hi mate, I checked out this car very nice and great attention to detail. One thing though the engine number does not match the rego, it was never re-registered with the RTA you might want to make sure you get that done as the rego was due on it soon I think and it may cause you problems. You may also need an engineer report for the replaced front brakes. Just wanted to give you a heads up. Enjoy your new ride!

Ollie - October 24th, 2009 at 06:37 PM

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah dont tell me that! Im hoping it'll pass by through a rego check unsuspected! Surely the Rego won't ask too many questions! I hope...??

Any iany ideas that'll help

VDUBXTC - October 25th, 2009 at 02:21 AM

Just pay the fee for the engine number transfer.
The brakes is another thing. But if they are type3 then i doubt you need be concerned

Ollie - October 25th, 2009 at 08:51 AM

Does anyone know how much the transfer fee is? And do I need to get it inspected? The brakes im not too concerned about really

VDUBXTC - October 25th, 2009 at 08:55 AM

Cost me $28 last time, could be a little more these days. It's just to change the engine number records on your rego papers.
so everything is ok when you go for your pink slip

Ollie - October 25th, 2009 at 12:05 PM

Sorry to be stupid, so is this just a phone call sort of deal? Or do I have to go and show someone? I will do it this week most probably, cheers for the heads up :)

matberry - October 25th, 2009 at 12:56 PM

Nice car mate. Welcome.

Look at the voltage stabiliser, a little ally electrical box attached to the back of the fuel gauge, check the small mounting screw is tight, it earths the unit, and can cause your symptoms.

Basically you need a blue slip - not a pink slip

Definitely a turn up and show them the car deal

Ollie - October 25th, 2009 at 03:36 PM

Anyone know any good places to get this done? I'm just a little confused as to how the provious owner got it registered with the engine in there already ?!

Bizarre - October 25th, 2009 at 03:38 PM

most pink slip people dont look at engine numbers

Ollie - October 25th, 2009 at 07:56 PM

You're a legend mate! Still new to this "30 year old car business" haha

Ollie - October 28th, 2009 at 07:28 PM

Just a quick update guys!
Went to start the car the other morning for uni, and it wouldn't start, no matter what I tried! I spent around 20 mins trying to get it started, checked all the usual details, but no matter what I did I couldn't work out why.
I pushed it a little up from my house (past a bus stop of bewildered onlookers) for a good old fashion rolling hill start. Nothing.
As i rolled it up to the gutter and parked it, I figured I should pop the kill switch on... Oh S**t, the Kill Switch...

Sure enough, in my sleep deprived state I had completely forgotten the kill-switch was activated, thus ensuring i flooded the engine with petrol and fouled the plugs and drained the battery - Not a bad way to start the day!

So now my little bug is resting down from my house (in full view from my balcony thank God) in a little dead-end street by itself.
I've tried to start it up a few times with a jump, but it just farts and carries on, with the occasional flame bursting through the exhaust and carby's.
I'm planning to clean the plugs this weekend and then take it for a well earned cob-web-cleaner of a drive.

Any one got any suggestions as to other things that may help with the sparking to life of the bug?

Cheers,
OIlie
