importing bugs and splits
kavio013 - April 1st, 2010 at 11:53 AM
so not only am i new to the bug scene, i want the impossible, i want a RHD bug, pre-'68 with a rag top....and i found one!!! so heres my problem. i
have NO CLUE of how to get this thing to the US, any help would be great... i am also planning on using a 2.5L WRX STi motor like Quik108 here on the
forum. i know its alot of hard work and probably even more$$$ but hey, now i know what to spend my daughters collage fund on.......
so how do i do it? car is in UK i am in US
Joel - April 1st, 2010 at 03:59 PM
i think we got you the first 3 times
surely it would have been easier to find a ragtop in the US and convert it to RHD
i dunno bout UK (not really ragtop type climate there) but they're a dime a dozen in the US compared to here and prices would reflect that too
kavio013 - April 1st, 2010 at 04:10 PM
sorry didnt know it posted that many..lol im new to this....price here in the states is outrageous , but ive found them at reasonable prices across
the sea.... and i found one for 1500(us) and am now shipping it over....

I'd suggest that you be extremely careful buying any old cars sight-unseen, especially from the UK. As you may have heard, it's rather a damp
country and 40+ year old stuff there rusts quite a lot. Any Beetle you find has probably had half the floor rusted out as well as the A pillars and
inner arches. This is fine as long as it's been repaired properly, but the difference between a quality repair and a horrible bodge job is very
difficult to discern from a photograph, especially if it's through a thick layer of bog and paint/underseal!

I think I'm missing something, you are in USA (left hand drive country), you want a right hand drive car so you bought one from the UK and your asking people in Australia how to get the car from UK to USA.
Is this a gee up or am realy missing something.

from what i see on here, there are members from all over the world not just US or Australia... im merely looking for info....the value of a RHD in the
US is crazy.. i know a guy who sold one in near perfect condition for 30K(us) and that was a stock car. tho RHD.. so my want for a RHD is not
unfounded... i would imagion that there are alot of people here in the States that would LOVE a RHD..... just my two cents.....lol
helbus - April 1st, 2010 at 07:23 PM
You could always move to Australia and drive as many RHD cars as you want!

Sorry dude, hope you don't think we only want ozzies on this site. We live so far away from the rest of the world, sometimes we may sound a little
backward. Ie. Yes means NO!
I welcome your comments and your participation on this site, but remember a lot of people thrust their opinion forward thinking they are right.
I use this site to connect with like minded people from all around the world and we help each other. I bring stuff in from overseas with help from
people overseas. I also search, obtain and send parts overseas. It's a two way street!
If somebody disagrees with me I do not find it necessary to defend my position.
Welcome my friend to Aussie Vee Dubbers.
