Thought i would just share an epic voyage me and my brother just had driving my 74l bug over 5050 klm from brisbane via canberra to perth.
And to add to that, that the car wasn t registered until a day before we left.
So job one was to get it registered and i had a do or die time frame of 8 days.
-I put a new windscreen in it
-new front bearings
-new tyres all round
-cleaned and greased cv's
-sway bar bushes
-torsion bar bushes
-swap engine from other bug and put new hex bar linkage and re-seal oil leaks.
-new running boards
-new passenger door and rear guard
And this was meant to be a holiday!
getting the fly wheel off to check the rear seal.
The 1600 donk out, making way for some new life.
out with the old and in with the new
and wholla
with one test drive im ready to get registered and drive across Australia?!!! The Ignorance of youth is a bliss full thing, or was t just having faith
in the humble volkswagen, i did pray though also........
Let the journey begin, Man it was cold without a heater. I definately picked the sunshine state plates for a reason.
this is what canberra leaves on your car when it -6 degrees!!!
Me and my bro weren t to interested with the east coast, just cause we had travelled it a few times and left the gold coast at 10:30pm and arrived in
canberra at 11:30am. which is pretty bloody good timing. And we had only spent $130 on fuel.
Although the oil drips had started to begin. Problem was i used the original charcoal breather thing that sit in the guard and i don t think it was
letting it breath and therefore was pressurising the case and pushing oil from under the alternater stand fuel pump and external oil filter fittings.
But it wasn t a journey stopper, just topped her up every 800k's of driving. All up we used about 6 litres of oil.
this made me nervous.
WOW!
Awesome effort!
Any more pictures of the hottie?
yeah im going to put some more up tonight of crossing the nullabor and the great australian bite.
Plus i figured out what litres/klm i got which is quite impressive.

dave you need one of them at your place, just hide her in the secret lair....
i was waiting for someone to notice her. My flat mates and I used to leave her out the front door and piss ourselves laughing at the people who would
stop and make conversation with her.
Its a card board cut out. Shes advertising some hay bag/a bag you put lucerne in? Anyway it didn t really catch on and somehow we ended up with it.
the sunsets seemed to go on for ages.
theres nothing like camping when its in the middle of winter!
we went down this national park trail and nearly got stuck because the road looked hard as a rock but it was just this silver clay and we all of a
sudden couldn t steer. But we didn t go to far and reversed out to find somewhere else to sleep.
camping by the murray all by ourselves.
more to come..........
