Picked her up on the weekend, more rust than I thought and more to discover I'm sure. Nameless at the moment which is unlike me, nothing seems to
suit! Stripped her down when we got home, pictures to follow.
There's some definite potential there!
Don't know why but it looks like a 'Lucile'
Good work!
Nice one.. Could be a Mary.... Would suit the sign writing "just Mary'd" :P
Wheels and slammmmm!!

Well the bumpers have been removed....as has almost everything else. I'm afraid this one will be getting the full works fellas and will be shining like the sun when finished.
Awesome looking project mate. love the matching number plates.
What are your plans for it?
Cheers Mike, don't want to give too much away just yet, haven't sorted it all out in my own head yet! First thing will be to get the body off and get it blasted to see how bad it is. From first inspection the pan is straight and solid which is a bonus.
I do the same thing every time I look at my beetle I change my plans for it
I'll have to keep an eye on this thread because I'm sure it'll keep me motivated
Congrats on the new bug!
I saw this one for sale a while back and thought it had potential.
I think there is something charming about the name "Rusty". For now anyway.
Got her all stripped down over the weekend, will add pics tomorrow when my hands are clean enough to handle the camera. I think I'm ready to lift the
body off the pan but as this is my first time stripping a bug I wanted to check I had all the bolts out. I have taken out the following...
- 2 @ rear axle
- 2 @ front axle under fuel tank
- 6 under or behind where the rear seat would be
22 under the car including 4 longer bolts at the front of the pan, 2 either side
Cheers
Here are the photos as promised for anyone watching...lots and lots and lots of rust. Pan looks ok though, just surface rust although I haven't
cleaned it up yet to have a proper look. Only the one door to come off before the body can be lifted, need to get some easy outs before I get the door
off though.
Rubber channel for the bonnet - uh oh
Drivers side front quarter panel
Drivers side rear quarter panel
Can anyone tell me what these are? Found them in the top corners of the engine bay, soft cushion like things.
looks good mate....you certainly haven't wasted any time!!
keep up the good work....and keep posting lots of photos, great inspiration for the rest of us building cars too!
Cheers!!
Scarab (aka: Paul)
theyre to keep all the fumes/noise/dust from the engine bay out of the interior
That was the better way of doing it
they started using fullerfoam instead in the 70s which holds water and rusts them from the inside out
