Bought from Canberra in 2006 with the idea to keep as it was but after living near the coast for a year the thin paint started get the dreaded orange
spots so i decided to have a go at painting her! was not happy with the finished result so sanded back and painted her back to original colour with
exception of the white on the sides!
The white was also re-done as i did what i thought was a crap job of that too.(it was my first time as they say!)
bearing in mind for just over 2 years i drove daily with it in the dove blue and 1200 motor.
The car is nearly finished and regretfully for sale when finished!!
Anyway got thousands of phot's but this is where it started and where i'm too today!
The Stripping process!
Didn't like using the paintstripper so went back to sanding which takes forever!
The car itself didn't need much filler as it's in great condition, rear right guard was a bit beaten up so little bit of bog as you can see!
This is the worst of the bog work!
High build primer
Painting the white (first time)
then came the blue.
12months after painting the blue i pulled the guards off to paint the body under there which i should have done last time!
Next came the removable rear apron thanks to dirtbag (tim) which done a great job! cheers mate, he has documented this in the tech forum.
next came the new 1641cc motor, again i have pics of the new pistons and heads going onto the block but i'm sure nobody wants to see then too!
In this picture you can just see the freshly powder coated wheels from the back, new pushrod tubes etc...
Now for this year, 2 months ago the white was re-done. good result this time.
Next in august i took the car off the road to finish it, took the motor out cut my fingers to death sanding the firewall!
also painted the inside of the deck lis and put the 1641 back in while i wait for the 1200 motor parts to turn up.
NOW WERE GETTING SOMEWHERE, THE REAR GUARDS, ENGINE LID FRONT GUARDS AND BONNET ARE PAINTED THE ORIGINAL COLOUR!
THEN MOVE ONTO THE CAR AT LAST! FIRST JOB WINDOWS OUT THEN A SILLY NUMBER OF HOURS MASKING.
UNMASK AND PUT THE GUARDS BACK ON
TODAY BEEN PUTTING THE CHROME TRIM BACK ON FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 3 YEARS.
Gee, seems like those years just flew by from start to finish. You have had a few incarnations of this car and will this be the last colour scheme.
You obviously like painting and dont mind the having to mask it up all the time. Any plans for future mods and please update when you get bumpers etc
all back on
Kev
You would think the years have gone quick but I hated driving it round unfinished, the first blue was a test job but the new lighter blue is the final
colour as it's the original colour for the car. Got the 1200 motor awaiting assembly to go back in for sale, all the tinware has been finished white
to match the blue and white theme, hoping to get that assembled in a week or so but will only go in when sold!
Waiting for the window rubbers, bonnet and decklid seals and bumper to body rubbers from classic vee dub to put the bumpers back on finally.
Last thing to do is paint the dash which I have nearly finished sanding ready for paint. Really wish I could afford to get the interior trimmed but
not the case!
coming along nicely, look forward to seeing the finished product
After all this work, why are you selling it? And what are you planning to do with the 1641?
It looks too good to sell!
Have to sell really, need a safer car to carry our little one when I pick him up from day car 3 times a week. I always planned to never sell but these
things change. I have a low light stored in a mate's garden which I plan to keep the 1641 for but will sell with the car if an offer is made
(everything for sale at the right price).
Got all windows in the car today so I can drive to work tomorrow hope the police don't stop me! No guages and only drivers seat in car!!
engine tinware ready to on!
Dilema, leave white, paint blue to match car colour or black as original?? suggestions?
ok updated pics!
After studying the butcher job someone had done to put a radio in the dash i had it welded up for a clean look.
dash repairs done!
after painting i ordered my interior which i couldn't afford!! to tidy up the old seats.
While on order i stripped the old seat and painted the frames...
Interior turned up. big thanks to brad at http://www.busnbug.com
During the fitting process, making sure new plastic is fitted to the doors before the door cards go on.. super important!
cracking work, i plan on doin a resto on my notch over a few years as i enjoy her
Just a word of advice though, if you think it will take you 12 months. Times that by 5! Lol.
last pictures!!
JUST HOPE NOW THAT SOMEONE WANTS TO BUY IT AND MAKE THE MOST OF HER!!

1200cc motor complete with new parts! ready to go in with the sale.
Thinking of putting some of the audio back in to sell the car! sound deadening also for luggage compartment while im at it.
nice work, love the interior trim too.
Thanks nickster I like the trim too. Due to being a fussy bastard I took the engine lid back off the weekend to wet sand and buff the inside. And a
close up of the outside paint!
Can see the reflection of motor now!
New steering wheel and dash chrome back on
Hey mate
did you end up selling her ?
