Dave Tanners `54
57 Chook Shed - December 4th, 2010 at 06:36 PM

Another big day round at my shed. Dave Tanners `54 arrived bright and early ready to have the rust cut out.
The pan has already been restored by Dave (fantastic job) so it was decided that the body would come up on the `ragtop pan. Looks awesome!!!
Anyway it`s had a hit front and rear so the valances and inner guards all need replacing. There is also rust here and there in the usual places including the front winscreen surround but thankfully it`s nowhere near as bad as Matties Ragtop!!
Will keep you posted with progress pics on this one.

Cut out the damaged area at the back of `54 today and started grafting in the new steel.

Found an area on the l/h side in the guard mounting area, just next to the end of the gutter whcih had also been damaged and bashed into shape so decided to replace that too. I used a setion from the donor rear cut that I had from Matties Ragtop resto.

Gra, I should of just swapped 54 shells with Dave as that's how much I want to cut off the back of mine!
Keep up the good work.

Welded her up.

Dave has marked the car up with the areas he wants me to fix up. Now I am a bit puzzled why but he had put a note next to the back window saying "Update" so I grafted in the back window of my `63 Rod. I will use the `54 Oval Window in the Rod. Should look cool, suppose those small back windows are not everyones cup of tea.

Gra, Are you filling the exhaust cutouts up?
54's don't have them. You could do this in photoshop too.

HI, heres some progress pics of the `54. The doors were rotted out along the bottom rib and after a fair bit of procrastinating over how I should repair them I decided to use the top of the inner door skin off one of Mattie`s donor bugs that I aquired. Took a fair bit of re-shaping but the basic shape was there and as always I like to recycle as much genuine VW metal as I can..............
