My new '69 Beetle
Menangler - July 26th, 2003 at 06:05 PM

Here are a few pics of new just finished '69 Beetle.
I have been building this for the last 4 months, Weekends and most nights in the shed.
It was a rather shabby German '69 semi auto with no rust and worn out paint.

I have converted it to a manual Swing axel gearbox (for Drag racing) wide 5 drum brakes all round, (the wide 5 discs are on their way over from the US) so I can run the BRM wheels.

The engine is a 2176cc with 48 IDAs and street eliminator heads.

The rest is fairly stock, including the interior which came out of the bin at Rod Penrose's place, Thanks Rod!! it came up nice.

Dave welcome to the '69 Beetle club.
that's a fine example. Did you make your nerf bars and where's your number plate gonna go ?

decked dubby - July 28th, 2003 at 09:06 AM

Looks excellent Dave.

I can just see you and Jamo riding around together in that.:thumb

sikdub - July 28th, 2003 at 11:01 AM

Neat as Dave, looks cool as. Interior from a bin? Must chuck some good stuff....
Steven

Menangler - July 28th, 2003 at 06:24 PM

Thanks for the compliments,
Yep all the black door trims came from the bin, they were 90% perfect, the seat covers were good used ones, I used 5 low back seats from the wreckers to make one good set, new carpet kit and headliner though, (I cheated)

I bought the nerf bars from SKH in Sydney, they were the only place that had them in stock.

What front number plate! who needs a front number plate.:D

68AutoBug - July 28th, 2003 at 11:32 PM

Excellent '69 Beetle Dave.... shame You didn't leave it as a semi auto though.... but semi autos aren't that good at Drag Racing I guess!!! Congratulations Dave, You've done an excellent job on it....

I Like Your Beetle too EMPI.... I like what You did with the early model tail lamps etc and those Rubber bumper Over riders.... I simply LOVE those Over riders.....

Sorry I haven't replied lee, I haven't looked at this for a while.
It was already converted to manual when I got it, Do you need a semi auto tranny? I think I still have one around here somewhere.
