Newbie looking for info!
backtoscratch - March 21st, 2011 at 06:35 PM

Hi Guys!

Newbie here! I was wondering if anyone knows Bridget?

Bridget is my 1973 Jeans Beetle.....

I bought her from Volksworld in Moorabbin in June this year.

I was wondering if anybody knows the car and any history about it? All I have managed to deduce so far is that it was originally a UK car, she was built in Belgium in July 1973, and sold new in the UK (the only RHD market for the Jeans Beetle). She also has the BSA (British Standards Authority) kite symbol on various components.

Her colour is Tunis Gelb (Yellowy Orange) with denim upholstery and matt black exterior trim (headlight surrounds, bumpers running strips etc). Her only other identifiable marker is a dealership sticker on the back window from Parnell Motors! (Looks kinda old)

I'll attach some pictures to see if anyone can identify her!

Any info would be great! I'd love to know her history!!!

If you are trying to use the sites file attachement they just have to be less than 100kb or they don't show up.

Guessing you're the one that was having the water leakage probs on thesamba?

Yup! That's Me!

I took her to Bruno Finks in Hawthorn who have done an amazing job! Fixed the leaks (hood alignment), Replaced the oil cooler seals, fixed the clutch and heaters.

Simone and Jurgen are the best as I would recommend them to anyone!

Thought it sounded familiar, probably the only Jeans bug in the country.

I love those late European 1200 beetles.

So simple and minimalistic inside.
Looks like the original denim upholstery has survived well.

Well that was what I was thinking!

Does anybody know if there are any other Jeans Beetles in Australia? I may end up taking her back to the UK at some point! I remember seeing coverage of the QLD floods and I saw what looked like a jeans bug being pushed through water!

It had chrome headlight surrounds so maybe not! Does anyone recognise my bug from over the years?

It's probably been in Aus for quite a while seeing as the bottom 6" of it are still there.

Oh yeah don't ever damage the front bonnet, those Euro 1200s and the US 1975 110 models are the only model bugs that use the late bonnet without the fresh air grille and trim strip.

My tech seems to think it's a 1300? From my JB research it seems that this MY is 1200 only?

Hood is fine but the wheel well is out of whack from what looks like a collision, they had to deflate the tyre just to get it out of the holder! It's now sitting on top of te fuel tank! But at least it shuts correctly now!

It may have a 1300 engine it in now but they were originally 1200.

Only the European 1200s had the sparse interior like that with the center section only headliner, plain steering wheel and plain dash with no fresh air ventilation or grab handle.

I think Jeans bugs had carpet but normal 1200s only had that cardboard basket weave liner behind the back seat and rubber floor mats.

Exactly what mine has! so deffo a Euro 1200 then! I might go and look at the engine number and see if I can match it up with something!
