The "68" bug......
DubCrazy - May 28th, 2011 at 08:30 PM

well where do i start.....

some of you know and some dont... so a very cut down story...

I got a 68 bug on the 19th of feb, it was ment to be a very solid strong car so it was going to be perfect for our needs...

Collected the car(on trailer as brought over the net) and took her home. I drove it aorund for 4 days and there wasa couple of little issues but i was quite pleased with my latest project. I gave a friend a lift and when i braked it pulled very strongly to the left(didnt before). So i just thought the brkae line mite be pinched with the extra weight as it had droped spindles and it mite be feed the wornd way. I was going away that weekend so i drop it at the mechanics with the instuctions..."have a look at brakes ,explained why and while its here give it a once over".

heres the fun part , on the monday i got a call and was told that they would not let me drive the car out of there shed as there as that many different things worng with it!!! the total quote to fix and put right came to $4960!!!

To say i was unhappy is an understatement but after a few calls i get hold of the roadworthy station and after a fair bit of "chatting" he agrees to foot the bill to fix..

The list of part was quite long with the only part of the car that seemed good bar a couple of pushrod seals leaking was the engine. When they pulled the engine out it turned out to be not quite as good as i was lead to belive.. parts that were ment to be fitted were missing and work that was ment to be done wasn't so it ended up costing me more as it needed new barrels and pistons, heads and 5 of the valves(replaced all) and clutch..

So....................... 3 months on from when i brought the car i finaly got it back!!! yippppiiieeee!!!!!!!!!!!! the money was payed and the work done and now i finaly have what i was ment to get in the first place...

now i had a plan for this car with colours and style all worked out but since i have got it back and done some work to it myself i had kinda fallen in love with it and the plans have blown out BIG time :crazy::crazy:

so here it was as i got her....

http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa300/Dubcrazy_01/rearbefore.jpg

not to bad to look at apart from those blody awfull rear guards!!!! horrible fiberglass and horrilbe shape so i removed them put standard metal back on,put the bumpers back on,fitted ajustable rear plates and leveled it out a bit and removed the engine lid standoffs, in the morning i will take pics(was dark by the time i finished) and then i think i will just enjoy driving it for a couple of weeks while i try and work out just what to do with her..

I have already collected a pair of rear pop outs,a 1916 engine kit and new headlining.

let the fun begin!!!!

Nice project. Mmm, pop-outs. I do like a good set of pop-out windows! Can't wait to see the updates.

Glad to see that you got it all sorted mate!

I'll have to come down one weekend and check it out! Maybe drop my bonnet off.

Looking forward to following your updates.

If you look at the last picture at the head lights u can see i had Navra prisim semi sealed united fitted. they cost 150 bucks so a little more than standard but as the onld ones were rusty i only had to make up the difference (roadworthy station payed) and they are SO much brighter on the road its unreal... i would recomend them toeveryone who has to replace there lights..

not sure what i plan to do, i just prefer them on rather than off....

i did have a plan which keept it white but insted of straight white a pearl was being used so it still looked ivory but with sparkle and it was going to get some artwork in the sides, keep the red inside... but as i said at the start i mite go all out now....colour change the lot....

we seem to have twin cars, even down the the seats...

No its going to stay ivory white actually other than some touch ups i will put the money into a new engine rather than a respray. once you respray you too worried about parking anywhere and for me i like to drive it on weekends :)
