I've just aquired this little gem, some will be cringing and hitting the back button, others will read on.
as you can see, Baja front end, ute rear end, my question is; What make is the baja front end, does anyone have a link to other kits, and whats needed
to finish off the headlights? (no petrol and a match is NOT the right answer)
the guards and front bib appear to be all one piece. ps any info on the ute kit would be nice too.
cheers jon
coat of paint, round buggy eyed headlights and a bull bar at the front will make it a cross between a buggy and baja!
i rekon its got very unique potential. Maybe someone hacked a buggy body front end and transfered it over to fit the baja front end?
"And the angels cried when they saw what he had done".....or as Derryn would say "Shame Shame Shame"
Nah...good stuff!!! Beetles were made to be cut up...i like it
They look like LH torana square lights,so try and find one of them and measure up and use the surrounds off one of those
a Mullholland Baja??
I very much like ute bajas but afraid I don't like front end treatment, but each to their own. At least you will have a unique ride which is why we modify our VWs in the first place.
Maybe made by these people??
Pictures used thanks to Sanscene.com.au
BY-JOVE VDUBXTC.... i think you got it, i googled mullholland baja, they are similar but not the same the headlights sit higher.
but these "volksport" people are the ones, they are (were?) based in WA and this is a WA car (i'm also in WA so its staying here too!) i'll do
some research and see what turns up.
i've cleaned the car out, there was a wheely bin full of crap inside it clothes, papers, bottles, etc, $15.90 in change, a nice LED torch, and an
animated dog that sings and flaps its ears which i find highly amusing but the cats sh!t scared of it!
it took me a short while to sort some of the electrics and get it started, the PO said the motor was seized (i think the battery was flat) it needs
the brakes servicing and some TLC, and we have another winner!!
Take one light out and go for a travel through a Pick Part wreckers. You will be able to compare your light to late 70's and early 80's Japanese cars. It looks like a standard 165 x 100mm headlight. You will be able to see what surrounds they have that you could use, even if you buy a long grille and cut the ends off it where it goeas around the lights.
Yup those are just your garden variety 5x7" semi sealed headlights as fitted to nearly all 70s, 80s and 90s cars with square headlights.
Just need to find a surround that fits neatly.
Same deal with the tail lights, just universal ute/trailer lights.
when i said finnish off the light, i mean is there a bit that surrounds th light fixings etc, they look ugly and poss classed as dangerous. the lights in the pictures appear to be sat further back, so the lense is closer to the guard, sat back abit more. this wont interfere with the tyre, and will look alot neater. mind you, when a car is this ugly every little helps!
busy day, i serviced the front brakes, the steering and the front suspension (i need some bump stop rubbers) i also fitted some mini (small) truck
mirrors, a big A bar and some slimline spotties, i've got some nice round LED tail lights to fit, and arial to go on the rolll bar, and i think it
needs some bug indicators on the roof. oh yeah i want it to be "fully sic man"
He man, digging those mirrors!!
Makes it look like a little truck!
Smiley
Geez, getting straight into it then. Keep it up.
i jet washed all the crap off the link pin beam, the paint looks good so no work needed there!
made some enquiries about "Volksport" they closed their doors years ago. i thought they were something to do with Volkswest, but Billy said nothing
to do with him they were on the opposite side of the road! he's going to tell me more when i see him!
i took the beeute round the block and nearly threw myself thru the windscreen, i did a good job on the front brakes!
today, i jet washed the whole of the rear underside, found good and bad, the bad i found was the rear brake pipes are zip tied to the axle tubes, so i
need to weld on a couple of brackets. the cars seen some heavy off roading, the rear bump stops are totally shot. they must be an untrusting lot here
in WA, the gearbox is chained in, theres also strapping over the bell housing.
i've serviced the rear brakes, the hand brake only comes up 6 clicks, it used to point at the ceiling!!
while working on the rear end i noticed some very faint markings on the side panels under the tray it said "STARBUG1" what does this mean? a 70's
love child? too much Ziggy Stardust and Odesssey??
The ute tray treatment is kinda cool, best I've seen, but the clincher is the tow bar, does it swing out of the way? and if so how is it held in place for towing. Love it.
Hi donn, the tow bar has been folded out of the way, i dont think it will fold back in a great hurry. i'm not planning on towing anything soon, good
job really!!
a spot of shopping today, came home with a full set of bump stop rubbers, a pair of door strikers, a pair of early bug indicators. i'll be busy
tomorrow.
i discovered what "starbug 1" is, its the space craft from the tv show Red Dwar, it kinda suits it!
I got on with the job today, i swapped all the bump stops, i made some brake pipe brackets and welded em on, i rust guarded the rear arches (inner
guards) made a start on the body work, its not pretty and will probably need a roof transplant in the near future. i also modified the ugly
headlights, i think they do look better, but its still not a pretty car!!
ugly protruding lights that may be classed as a danger!
a bit of ally works wonders
yes i did them both! looking good!!
Looking good with the alloy eyeliner!
the body work is coming along nicely, the cold weather means paint and bondo is curing slowly.
i wasn't bored, (i got shit-loads to do) but i thought i'd try a logo on the door, later i'll age and fade it, after its been colored in.
