Definately 58-59. Has 58-67 screen size and dash.

Interesting score Bags

Well guys I have no idea of it's age at the moment as 1) am still only a newbie to VWs and 2) won't be able to pick it up till mid august now due to work comittments of the seller, but did notice that it does seem to have the holes for semophores on it.

I agree with Matt even though I have no idea on models. Only reason I think he's right is a mate has semophores on his 59 bug. Yeah is something different and just had to have it. Kids hate it though which makes it all the more fun to own and I like the idea of a baja ute. Big question is whether or not I will be able to get it back on the road looking similar and just how much it will cost.

Well I finally picked up the ute but now would appreciate some help in dating it. The seller said his father did the work on the car to convert it and he believes the engine is original to the car. Engine number is KDA003193 and is stamped on the generator stand. Also it has semaphores. I am assuming it is a '50s car.

matberry - August 21st, 2011 at 04:56 PM

Engine is 36hp 1192cc with cast on genny stand a could be orig as the car is also 58-59, big window semaphore body.

baghall - August 21st, 2011 at 04:59 PM

Yes it does have rust but seems cleaner than I expected, however, I do assume the black paint is hiding some more. At least tracing the wiring will be easy. Windscreen has been made to pop out. (Home style safari window.)

baghall - August 21st, 2011 at 05:04 PM

Simple wiring.
Front end needs a tidy up. The bonnet was just cut and a new front made to match!
Seat mountings work but won't pass RTA specs.

Anthiron - August 21st, 2011 at 05:16 PM

With some Beetle doors, Baja Nosecone and Baja rear guards that would look quite cool.

Looks like you have got yourself a bit of work there Wired1.

Wired1 - August 23rd, 2011 at 06:20 PM

Yeah too much for this one. The body is now a garden ornament and I've stored all the useable parts for later. Too far gone unfortunately.

Hey wired1, I might be interested in your wheels if you want to get rid of them. They would suit the ute.
