Third time lucky, right?
Well, that's what I'm hoping for! After two failed attempts at building up a Bug (the first had severe engine problems and the second one I killed)
I'm planning on building this one up to be a tough street bug with some power to match the look I'm going for!
The car in question is a '69 1500 Bug with a new respray and little-to-no rust. I had a decent dig around after I brought it home and could only find
a smidgin under the battery and a small bubble on the bonnet - Huzzah!
Although I do love Single Port Madness, I've gone ahead and bought myself a slightly larger engine...
Specs:
- 2276cc
- 10:1 Compression
- 044 Heads
- FK87 Cam
- 48IDA Webers
- 1 5/8th Sindwinder Muffler
I'm still deciding on a gearbox to tame the beast, so I shall keep all updated on that decision!
First port of call however is the boat-like stance at the front end!
So, I've booked it into see the boys at RAW in the next week or so get the front end lowered and narrowed 2". I'm keeping the rear as is, as I'm
planning on adding some Chrome/Polished Fuch's on it when money permits. As for the wheels at the moment, I'm swapping the front set with some
original wheels and stretching a slightly skinnier tire onto it.
Let me know what y'all think, and I'll keep everyone updated with pictures!
Cheers,
Ollie
Nice one Ollie.
I like it looks very clean and nice colour combo, back sits good just need the front down a little.
cheers shane.
Love the colour! That's what i eventually want to paint mine (in a few years). Nice score on the engine. IMO some black rims would like nice with that colour. That's what i would do. Keep us updated.
^^ Mmm could be something to think about! I've been playing around on BugSelecta so I'm trying to work out which way to go with the wheels!
Empi 8s are up there as well
Ollie great to see you are back in the game. Keep us posted on your progress. And btw nice score she looks in great nick.
Good to see you back in a bug again Ollie
Just check your chassis number too, you may find it's another 70, 69s had the metal strip across the dash, cable operated front heaters and a non
vented decklid if all that hasnt been swapped.
Ah Sweet I'll have a gander tomorrow and report back, cheers Joel.
She's running nicely at the moment but I can tell there are little tweaks that can be fixed so I might have a fiddle over the week and try getting it
running a little smoother
Couldn't help noticing the 'fat' wallet on the seat, Ollie.............was that BEFORE you bought that engine?
Hah It contains a lot of IOU's to various people... many favours to pay back... eep
That will dress up the engine bay nicely! The only part of the car that looks sub par at the moment.
Will you need to get it engineered with that beast in the back?
Absolutely I will!
Will I? Another question altogether...
No in all seriousness it's my weekender so I'll get it all done and then get it engineered eventually when I have money again.
That said it doesn't have an engine number stamped onto it yet...
Nice looking Bug!
What's the go with narrowing the front beam? Isn't that making the handling dangerous?
Are you putting big wheels on?
I can understand the lowering.
Narrowing it only slightly so that in time I can comfortably fit some wider wheels in time (possibly Fuch's)
I didn't want to go anything more than 2" as I think it would start to affect the handling, so I figured 2" was a decent compromise?
Quick update, Car went into RAW this morning for the front to be lowered and narrowed. Going a 135 stretch on the front, so it should look nice and tough
Ollie!
Looks beautiful! Can't wait to see this new stance.
Have you given her/him a name yet? :P
Sweet bug! any specs on the new motor??
How did I miss seeing your new car in the last week, as I am on here every day.
Looks like a real sweet ride and I like the look of the wheels as they are. I think lowered at the front will make all the difference to the
appearance.
Look forward to seeing the updated photos when you get the car back from Raw.
Congratulations, Kev
P.S. Didn't you own a citrus coloured bug, I thought that look great also.

Haha you might be broke but you can take as many pics of your bug and pist them here and it won't cost you a thing. Keep up the good work Ollie.
Alright so a quick sneak peak at the new stance!
I'll post up some more pictures when I get the chance, but here is one to keep those interested happy
The boys at RAW did a fantastic job and I couldn't recommend them more!
Ollie!
Looking good, definitely reckon it is a "Lucky"
Have you noticed any massive differences in handling? Looks like you've narrowed the front beam, or is that just me?
Ollie,
looking heaps better now the front is down, but try and picture it with a wheel filling out the guard like on the rear
I guess you cant run the original front tyre as it would rub on the inside edge
What's next on the agenda
Kev
Lookin good Vern!
that looks awesome I knew Adam at RAw wouldnt let you down, mine is back there this week getting fitted out with windows after the new interior goes in
Nice Ollie, just needs some wheels and tyres to fill those guards. Keep up the progress reports.
Cheers guys, im pretty stoked with it!
Seb the handling is fairly similar- nice and tight now though!
As for the wheel spacing, im actually kind of liking the missing space so Ill stick with it for a while until I go Fuchs down the line
