Great stuff zoofish and looks like you are doing a great job. I see you cut and fitted a rag top section, something I would have loved to have done.
Even though its good watching a car over time as it slowly builds, I always like it when you can see all the work that has been done in a short time
as you have posted (hope that makes sense).
Well done and please keep us updated, Kev
P.S. Where are you located.

Thanks Kev. I'm in Sydney and yes seeing the car 'fast forwarded' in pics is much more rewarding to see/follow

Thanks Andrew. Thrilled with the colour after thinking about 20 other 'possible' colours . Hoping to drive it to the Nationals in May.

Fantastic work. It looks great It's clear that you've not spent
the past two years doing nothing!!!
Normally I'm not a fan of the later Porsche wheels on early Beetles, but they suit the colour really well.
I take it those are indicators that you've put on the side just forward of the doors? And is that a hole for the mirror mounting just above it?

Thanks for that. Yes, I'm still eager to see what the wheels look like on the car once it is finished and then I'll make the call on whether to keep
them or source another set of Porsche wheels.
Yes that is the indicator on the side, as we took the 'peanut' indicators off the top of the fender. The holes above are for the chrome molding and
the two holes diagonally in front and below the indicator are for the 2 post aerial (The car previously had one fitted, so we thought we'd keep it).
The mirrors will mount on the door hinge.
Cheers,
Trevor.

Nice work Trevor - the car is sitting nicely with the stance and offset of the wheels working well. Brings back a lot of memories of my ragtop.
You've done a great job so far, hopefully will see it if I can get down for the nationals.
Cheers
Al

Thanks Al,
YES, I still LOVE your old Ragtop and odd that they ended up looking so similair . Still thinking about a set of Airkewld BAD Series discs to bring the wheels in a tad more...But first things first, get it on the
road and then we can go from there .
Cheers,
Trevor.

It's been a while since my last update, but work has been progressing slowly whilst we wait for parts to arrive, painting to be completed, seats to
be returned and carpet kit to arrive, BUT the hoodliner, ragtop, pop-out windows, 911-style lenses, U.S.-Spec taillights, petrol tank and german
running boards are on....Boot, doors and engine lid go back on over the weekend, so more pics soon. Hoodliner still needs some minor adjustment in the
ragtop section

zoofish - March 13th, 2012 at 01:57 PM
Slow progress this week, as we wait for parts to finally arive. In the mean time the bonnet is back on - a few more tweaks until I'm completely happy
with it.
zoofish - March 30th, 2012 at 10:24 AM
Seats go in - Bad light in the garage, as the leather isn't THAT red to the naked eye. Seats nearly completed...
Craig S - March 31st, 2012 at 09:41 AM
Looking fantastic, can't wait to see this one on the road in the flesh. All done for the Nationals?
psimitar - March 31st, 2012 at 10:30 PM
She looks lovely dude
Few q's tho.
1st, where did you get the headliner from? Mines a 59 without sunroof and the centre piece is missing so I have no reference.
2nd, I thought upto 1960 had semaphores? My 59 has but thought 60's did too?
Good luck with finishing her off.
grimbear64 - April 1st, 2012 at 02:58 PM

Thanks for your comments mate. I ordered the shooed liner from cip1.com, as they were out of stock at Wolfsburg West. The colour is 'off white' but
the vinyl is much more beige than their colour sample, but works perfectly with the car's colour.
As for the semaphores, mine was a late '60 and doesn't have semaphores. I've seen other '60's with semaphores and others without them. So I can
only put it down to a change somewhere during 1960 .
Thanks again mate

Thanks - the colour is much better than I could ever have imagined . I
pulled it out into the sun today, so I'll pop a pic or two up shortly.
With the headlights, they are US-style headlights, with H4 sealed headlights and we just replaced the lower bulb to an indicator bulb and rewired it.
You can buy the US-style headlights from anyone with the VW Part shops.
zoofish - April 1st, 2012 at 06:19 PM
FINALLY the car is out in the sun just before it goes for German Square Weave carpets tomorrow...
THAT exhaust catches EVERYWHERE! May have to rethink...mmm...
hellbugged - April 1st, 2012 at 06:35 PM
Thats beautiful!.......well done!
Vinatge speed exhaust would be good for clearance.
Craig Torrens - April 1st, 2012 at 06:45 PM
yep vintage speed or a sidewinder will certainly help.

Cheers...YES a Vintage Speed exhaust is the option I've been contemplating for a few months now. The Chico Performance engine from Cali arrived with
these exhausts on, but we've started ordering them for customers with Vintage Speed gear and they look and sound GREAT!
I've got a goal of 4 weeks and it'll be on the road (Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself)..
