as found, took a couple of years to get it tho.
beautiful dash
found rear guards for it, kind of matches.
pans rooted, so off with its head
new sides goin to go in, thanks to Al an Steve at Das Resto Parts for stocking the bits i needed.
some accessories goin on it.
from a wrecked 56 bug, need new rivets for it, an yes i will drill the original rings.
flying bonnet emblem, cast from an og one, (thanks Bob) i made a few of those.
bonnet straps
3 spoke
ratty mangels, but thinkin ill run stockers. still undecided.
with rusty flying swastika logo hubcaps
57 36er with the judson, some NOS bits goin on this thing as well.
theres another build thread about this engine only a couple of weeks build difference btween the car an engine.
started chassis
trial fit the wolfsburg west halves, thick metal an good fit
drilled holes all way round.
then welded the shit out of it
needed a little tweaking after initial welding for the rear half, but overall a good fit an impressed with the quality. grind back the tops an get it
ready for por15 all over it.
cleaned out all the cable tubes except for the choke, so off to find some tube and install it instead. bit of work involved but worth it in the end
both sides now welded in.
cuttin tunnel to fix cable tube
reattached rear plate thingy
rubber mat buttons
both sides done finally
put on the pedal cluster to weld in the bottom lockin plate
trialed the rubber mats to make sure i got the buttons in the right spot
loaded up for sandblasting
chassis is 100mm too long to fit in the tray. oh well
beer an tools for headlights
early bosch glass in early bosch frames, had to drill holes for the hinges, prob should of saved the frames, but if i put them in the cupboard for a
rainy day they will never be used.. purists will hate me now
finally got out to stans an had a chat about the 36er, i already knew it had been rebuilt, but he was quite impressed with it an how good of condition
it was in, even said the bearings will be fine to run, but if ive gone this far, might as well change them all out.
used his gear puller to pull off cam/dizzy gear.
new bearing on
heat up gears to slip back on
all done, crank is good to go back in now..
was goin to do the rod bearings as well, but chose against it as they are still really good as well..
hot washed the case an heads now to clean them up a bit before reassembly.
back from blasters
por 15
engine work.
got a high flow oil pump goin on it, so had to change the studs on the case.. u can see the difference.
good to go higher flow pump now!!
checked the cam in the case, it wasnt ovalled an sloppy so good to go again..
will turn straight..
nos pushrods, checked the clearance in the case an adjusted tabs as required..
dropped in the dowel pins for the bearings
lined up bearings with pins an dropped crank in
got cam right
an presto!!
high flow pump bolted in
new rear main seal, shims an gasket installed
polished flywheel for a good fit
all on an checked the end play, good clearance an crank/cam turn like factory
dizzy drive gear.
accidentally dropped the spacer shim in the case, nothin a good magnet an patience wouldnt get... wont do that again tho..
waitin on pushrod tubes to turn up then the heads/barrels will be on... wont be long at all!!!
cleaned up the heads, pretty good nick too.
rebuild a fuel pump with bigger spring for judson.
used wolfsburg west rebuild kit for internals..
nos base for pump
inserted return line screw for fram system an bolted up distributor
crank pulley an tinware, enough room for the bigger oil pump as well which was a concern i had.
and judson bottom pulley on as well..
tried to take out the studs for exhaust from the heads but kept snapping them, so off to machine shop to get them out, i hate gettin other people to
do work for me...
Back from work 2day, so will get into it again this week
Great work Dion, keep it going. I have the same headlights and bonnet straps for mine.

new barrels an pistons with new rings in them ready to rock
drivers side
passenger side
head on with crush washers an paper gaskets
other side done, head to head now finished, have to find my feeler gauges an do the clearances...
more tomorrow...
Nice work man
I'm not seeing much engine assembly lube???
Luftmeister, Everything is been lubed, look behind the barrel on the right, there is a oil can that is one of my fav things I have..
Not goin to fuck it b4 I run it..
Hey just checking. Normally there is lube everywhere on gears and rods and cam. Looks good. Where did you get the pans from? Sick of brazilian rubbish.

ready for welding
welded up an installed back on engine.
heater boxes cleaned an installed in workin condition again
more tinware installed
carb manifold an leads installed
generator and fan housing installed.
compressor put on the manifold, carby just sitting there, still some work to do to it. Magneto connected, belts, just starting the fram set up....
installed lines

beam painted an half assembled
paintin up the front end bits, before the k&ls get rebuilt with dropped spindles in them.
hopefully some more 2moro
Coming along nicely
been fuckin around a little 2day, doin stuff to the chassis, but finally got the bracket for the engine made, so fram an oiler bottle is hoked up, an

Only dust we will be eating is from the wind blowing off the pan and motor in your shed. The cobwebs and spiders are more likely to get us first
Ooooohhhhhh....... Now that's more incentive to get this thing goin.. I'll lighten it where I can with fiberglass an a whale tail to keep the back down in the race. Haha
