Here`s a little story if anyones interested
I was promted to type this from the Valla thread & i didn`t want to fill that thread with my sh!t, so here you go-->
---age 18 i started buying a few splitty & bay single cabs & i used to carry the minis with them
but stoopid me off-loaded the things "Just" before the boom :-(
anyways ,,, i already had been bitten by the Vee_Dub bug as my dad used to work for Henk at Auto center (Way way way back in the day) so i was already
born both a mini & vee-dub nut-case :-) (see, it`s not really my fault) :-)
anyways, long story short, over the years i had always carried my minis & customers minis & race minis all over the place, Literally years
& years & years i did that,,,, anyone in Brisbane who hadn`t seen me carrying minis in the back of my Spittly utes (Oh & a few bay Single
cabs too along the way) well you must-have had your eyes shut for a damn long time :-)
we even went & did this thing (Targa Tasmania rally)
in this thing-->
& ... carried the whole package all the way down to Tasmania & followed the event as crew-vehicle & then all the way back to Brisbane,
with basically a whole spare mini mechanicals in it & 2x fuel tanks, tools & water & oil & & & & & & , so much
stuff that (1.92tonnes all up actually) ,,, well,, ah,,, does "on the bump stops" mean anything to anyone for this entire distance??? :-) :-)
:-)--> with this thing-->
that`s Bondi sydney
even stopped off at (The Pass) at Byron for a surf on the way :-)
it was pure "GOLD" that whole trip :-)-->
:-)
Here`s the story i typed up for the Targa tassie Rally web-site-->
[url]
ah damn , can`t find the thing
ah well,,, there you go... alloy foiled again :-)
here`s another old one with my Turbo charged Alloy V8 sports-sedan mini in/on the back :-) (a fair bit earlier in the peace tho)
& even further back in the early days (early 20s)
i have heaps & heaps more old storys & pics & shots & "episodes" etcs of carrying minis on my kombi utes,,, & trips all over the
place,,, ahhhh,,, really wish i still had my first one tho,,, These are 2 of very few pics i have of it tho sadly,
it ended up becoming this un-breako monster, alloy V8 , 4 wheel discs, IRS rear , full roll-cage, winch,
twin tanks, etc etc etc & just awesome car,,,
funny enough it was even better than my Alloy V8 powered off-road race buggy :-)
i had plenty of single cab bay utes over the years too, but my favourites are the early splittys of course & i dearly wish i still had at least 2
of em, but some day soon i`d be keen on a duel-cab splitty with R32 or R33 turbo 4x4 Nissan Skyline running gear under it :-) but just looking stock
with "maybe slightly wider std-ish steel rims--> soooo sleeper its just sick :-)
sorry to the purists for that remark, maybe try to blame the insanity from the mini disease ok??? :-)
sooooo,,,, cutting that long story short--> i have this "package now"-->
the buggy is only 290kgs total, has 160hp injected 20v yamaha R1 motorbike engine in it :-) Does 12grand :-), front wheel drive, :-) think of it as a
cross between a mini & a go-kart :-) & yeah it turns & stops pretty good if you can imagine :-) :-) :-) :-) the Kombi is 32v Quad-cam
Alloy Injected V8 powered, pretty good auto-cross kombi :-)
anyways,,, there you go,,, a bit of reminiscing for you all, hope you don`t mind
cheers
Matt

Well done .Cheers Les
The single cab with the falcon tail lights was owned by cousin for a while a few years back. Suffered a bit of fatigue from a few a big wheel stands on the beach. Tarted it up and sold it from memory!!
great stuff to read, i know some one in melb would be over the moon
to see that last pic with daulcab.
