Project 54 Resurection
retroresto - July 27th, 2012 at 01:00 PM

Hi Guys,

As some may be aware by now i have taken on Turbo54's recently departed prize possession. I like to call it 54 #4. !!

Anyway, i would like to keep the project alive here and also to acknowledge all the hard work Heath has already put into the car.

As i only got the bare body and a few associated panels like doors and bonnet i will start from scratch with this new thread.

Im not doing anything with the body as yet as i'd like to get the floor pan sorted and rolling first.

The pan is a balljoint front swing axle job from a 72 standard 1300 beetle. the pan has been pressure cleaned and bead blasted and both pan halves have been replaced.

More pics to come as i do more on the pan in the next few weeks.

Cheers
Paul

Hi All,

A couple of photos of the pan, now all welded up with new pan halves and shinny black POR.

IMO convert it to IRS now....you will be kicking yourself later if you dont !

retroresto - August 13th, 2012 at 08:21 PM

Yes your right Craig, i have changed plans slightly since my last post, in fact have gained another oval since then. I have a 56 which will receive the swing axle pan and i've managed to secure an IRS pan over the weekend for the 54.

The only problem with IRS is narrowing the rear trailing arms, quite a bit more work than putting short 40hp axles and tubes in, but its never scared me off in the past!

Here's a pic o fthe beam installed with the new AirEvo 17x7 Fuchs replicas.
