any advice for Penny
lyds - November 22nd, 2010 at 02:02 PM

This is my type 3 Penny. I'm bought her and was trying to restore her bit by bit. It's a long process cause I'm a uni student and therefore am constatly poor. I unfortunatly had my first ever car accident in 6 years of driving and of course it has to be in the car I've loved the most.
Most of her damage is bodywork but I am yet to pull off the panels and see if the Chasis is bent. I think if it is I will have to cut the front end off. SHe did before this leak water under the dash really badly which I've heard a common rust problem so I figured I could probably kill 2 birds with one stone. But I figured if anyone has been through the same thing or similar and can offer any advice it would be greatly appriciated:) by me and Penny.
happy motoring everyone.
Lydia

Hi Lydia,

I don't think Your chassis is bent... [positive]
its only panel damage..

RH front guard
bonnet
front valance piece

headlamp and rim.. I can give You a headlamp and rim...

front RH Blinker assembly...

show pic of good blinker/headlamp etc...

there will be panel damage also...

looks like Your front bumper is still OK...

type 3s are a good strong car...

leaking water could be an easy thing to fix once You find where the leak is... can be under the windscreen rubber..

cheers

LEE

PS: part VLAD has is for a 68-69 type 3... Yours is 1970> up

Poor Penny! What did you hit? Has she forgiven you yet? That first crash is an eyeopener, isn't it?
Seriously, it looks quite repairable.
Once the bonnet and guards are off you will be able to have a good look around for rust holes letting in water. The bottom left corner of the windscreen is a very common place to have rust and the winscreen will almost certainly have to come out to fix this. In fact, removing the screen now and renovating underneath it is probably a good idea anyway.
Good luck with the repairs and remember it"s all about the journey, not the destination!

True true true ...... the positive side of this is you can now find out what else can be done while you are repairing the bent bits ....sometimes it takes an accident to show waht else might have needed to be repaired down the track ...even the best of us have cars that after something small happens it opens the door to preventing much bigger issues ....hang in there ..do it once and do it right .... good luck!
