hey guys and girls,
Im Pete from Cardiff, UK and just moved to sunny Melbourne with my girlfriend where we intend to stay for a long long time..
im currently looking at shipping over my oval project from the uk and its tasking my mind some what as its not a running car and by no means road
legal as yet.
hopefully I can find some guidance on the forum in the coming weeks so i can plan a way to get the car over to me and enjoy it in the sunshine and
hopefully get to a few drag days if they happen over here also.
my car is a 1956 california oval, its been converted to RHD and gone through a full body off restoration including narrowed beam, spindles, lots of
cleaning and a refurbed interior, rollcage and plastic windows to name a few of the mods, its a show winner and been featured in a few magazines with
little one page articles..
its taken me over 10 years to build and keeps going in and out of project form to up the anti, the next step is fibreglass wings and bonnet and an
EJ20 turbo engine on a subaru gearbox so it has 5 speeds this will be the final stage of the modifications and itll just be adding more power to get
the 1/4 mile times down at the same time as keeping it road legal so i can enjoy the 100k cruises around melbourne
heres some pics
Welcome to Oz. Your oval look great. I like the red gaurd beading with the satin black paint.
Welcome down under
You will find the winter weather in Melbourne much like Wales
ahhh i can only hope the last 2 months of 30+ degrees has been brutal, hopefully can get my car over to us in the near future so I can have a little
hobby and get it back on the road
thanks for the comments folks
g'day and welcome

You should be able to get lots of answers from the forum on requirements of shipping and registering your oval
cheers guys, had a few enquireys come back and it looks as though its going to cost in the region of $5k for shipping, which is pretty brutal at the
moment as my new visa is going to cost $4k
while im here, heres a photo from the best show ive ever been too, EBI3 a 700 mile journey in a car that was almost on the floor was great fun
and a picture of my old daily which got sold before flying over
Hi SatinOval,
We came out here from North Wales (close enough!). Several years ago now, and we sold all our VWs back then because we were told that modified ones
couldn't get through the red tape. Gutted. Now I've heard that that's not the case. Arghhh! My wife's never forgiven me for selling her Beetle,
and I do miss my Squareback. If you ever get cold in Melbourne in the winter, take a drive up to Queensland to warm up a bit.

yeah heard some horror stories about modifications, big shame is that this has a 4" narrowed beam and has been modified to go very low and victoria has a 100mm ground clearance rule so will have to change wheel and tyre options so it can roll legally, thinking 17" fuchs or Brms would work really well
Hey mate,
thought I would introduce myself...again.... you may know me as haveacamper from Cardiff Aircooled forum. I can beat Paul Cave....i'm from cardiff
too More specific, Adventurers Quay in Cardiff Bay. i'm out here for
2yrs with my fiancee on a visa too We live in Port Melbourne and have
been in aus for 2months now. If you want to meet up anytime soon. like you I was looking at bringing the camper over, but the cost of it has
seriously put me off....especially as we only intend to be here for 2 yrs, so it would be the cost of shipping it back too, lol. does the $5k include
doing all the registration over here too? like your oval, my bus is modified so not sure how this would work.
would a container share be an option
If you want to meet up for a drink mate, feel free to let me know
