Mini driver in Sydney converting to air cooled
adamstuart - June 5th, 2013 at 11:09 AM

Good morning
I'm Adam and I'm new here. I have been lurking here for many many years, but only justjoining the fold .

I have always collected minis, mokes and Morris 1100s. I also worked at a mini specialist mechanic for a while.

That being said and done, I'm here for something new; I'm here for a type 3.

Last Friday my tow car, and daily was stolen from the local station (79 valiant), so I will have some money soon and need a new daily.

Hopefully you kind folk can help me in buying a new car, and help me when it eventually falls to bits.
I'm looking for a type 3, I'm partial to fastback, but I will consider anything. I have up to 6k to play around with, but need something registered that I can drive home.

Happy to be here and can't wait to join the crowd.

Any help finding something nice and air cooled would be much appreciated!

Cheers Adam

Also, sorry if that's a little hard to read. On my phone on the train to work and it won'tplay nice.

One thing that always confused me was, why is there a distinct llack of love for fastbacks?

Cheers

which station did it get stolen from?

I had my daily stolen next to a bus station in SE-QLD early this year,
So much cannon fodder roaming the streets now... :td:

Welcome aboard. I must say I have a soft spot for minis as well.

I can't speak for the others on here but I really like the look of the fastbacks but never having owned one, MAYBE they have an issue that other models don't.

Good luck with your search.

I was parked at blacktown station, in the new car park covered in cameras. Which apparently don't work.

Silver lining though, it was well insured so I get the chance to cross the next car off my bucket list.

Thanks yogie, hoping to find something suitable sooner rather than later

No it wasn't M&M World, it was with Ivan Glasby at Mini Spares and Repairs, Castle Hill.

Interesting guy, with an equally interesting history in racing and building Cooper Climax's and Cooper Bristols.
Learned a lot in a very short time.

I'm an 850 guy myself, my favourite mini I ever had was a bone stock 64 850. Took it up Mt Victoria and it never batt and eye, it was just a very long climb.

Hoping to do the same this august in a VW though.
It's a mini run, that happens annually but we're trying to extend to other reaches of classic cars.

If anyone is interested in a run from Newcastle, through Sydney and ending in Rylestone. Overnight stop and then Bathurst the next morning and home again.
I'd love to see a bunch more VW's there this year

A local VW bloke around here (Port Macquarie) has a 1970 (I think) type 111 fasty for sale, but it is an auto. From what I can see, it is pretty much rust free, and is currently on historic plates, so shouldn't take much to get full rego.

Let me know if you are interested and I will give him a holler.

Cheers for that mate, i'm after a manual in particular but for the right price, I could settle for an auto.

Do you know how much he's chasing for it?

Thanks

Pretty sure it was $6,000.00 Not sure how negotiable it is.

Let me know if you want me to give him a holler.

Good to see you are heading in the right direction.

If God wanted cars to have engines in the front....He would have made them that way!
