neither of em give me an avatar when I put em in my profile. Not even a red cross.

that is because your image is huge .....
Make it smaller than 100 x100 or it will not work. I have done this to stop big images as avatar

just fixed her for ya, that last one was 144 x 108 I have set the code at smaller than 100 x 100

cheers but it is a different pic to the funny coloured notch, its an active *.gif file i want to use.

I fixed your post above, and got the pic to work in the post. For some strange reason the %20 replacements for the spaces didn't work, ie the
following doesn't work
but if you remove all the %20 and replace them with a space, it looks like this

Don't know why that works but it does.
As for you avatar pic (yes it's the profile pic), it has to be 100x100 or smaller. The [img=50x50] command will only resize the displayed image,
the original image is still too big. The original link image has to be 100x100. So if you enter the image URL in a browser and view it, it has to be
100x100 or smaller
