How to get your avatar working
Buggy Boyz - January 21st, 2003 at 08:31 AM

Step 1:

Choose an image. Any image, with max dimensions of 100x100 pixels, and preferably on the Internet already.

If it's on the Internet already, it will have a URL like:

http://www.example.com/images/avatar.jpg  (substitute with your own!)

Remember this URL - we use it later. If you need storage space, most ISPs include a small amount of web storage space - ask them about it! If not, don't worry - skip to the bottom of this post.

Step 2:

Test your image URL by firing up a browser and plug it in. It should come up okay. If so, go on, otherwise, stop now and get the right URL sorted out.

Step 3:

a. On the top right of every page is a "Control panel / Options" link like this:

http://www.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/images/cp.gif

b. Click "Control Panel / Options ". A new page will come up.
c. Click "Edit Profile". A new page will come up.

Step 5:

a. Scroll down til you see "Avatar URL:"
b. Paste your working URL from Step 1
c. Scroll down to the bottom and click the "Edit Profile" *button*.

Test:

Go back to any recent post of yours. Your avatar should should up.

Troubleshooting:

If it has a box with a red X in it, you have either got the wrong URL or the site you pasted from doesn't allow images to be displayed on third party web sites. Go back to step 1 and resolve.

If your avatar is too large, it will upset the display of the forums. Keep it to 100x100 or we WILL delete your avatar.

Last resort:

If the above doesn't work, e-mail the image to either

ajv+aussie@greebo.net

or

brad@offroadvw.net

In the email, include your username. We will host the image on the forum, and add it to your profile. This is not an immediate process, so bear with us.

Andrew and Brad.

That's the link from your personal Yahoo web site that allows you ONLY to edit/view them. Send the pic my way (use the e-mail button) and I'll fix it up.

I'm having some problems with mine too. I set it all up but the pic won't show up in the spot it should. I've just got that x in a square there. Can mail you the full pic (it's a bit big) or the URL for where the small one is, it came out a bit blurred but I guess it can't be helped...

Brad - June 10th, 2003 at 04:13 PM

Shani, yours didn't work casue you had it as the page with a htm extension when it needed to be an image with a jpg extension, I have edited you for you.

odapbr - January 13th, 2004 at 12:33 PM

Will email you with two pics. You make a choice or use both if you can.

Thanks.

vanderaj - January 13th, 2004 at 08:35 PM

Oh you wanted them for an avatar?

Neither will show up very well at that resolution - too much detail.

Check these out - they're avatar size and let me know if it's what you want.

Antihiron - do you still require assistance?

Andrew
