Hi all

Im having some problems with posting pics on here.

I own a 1974 bug with all the early panels. Was on the UK scene from 1996 and collected a few trophies for best in class.

It did run on Porsche Fuchs, but im making it into a back to 87 Cal Look bug on solids with W decklid, and other tricks.

Engine is a 1600 with hidden carb conversion, which means the carb is flipped behind the fanhousing so its hidden out of sight. I did have a rare RX dual stinger zorst on it.

Painted in pale yellow and goes by the name of Lemon Meringue. Its a classic pastel Cal Looker in the style of the late 80s.

I now run the Nostalgia Displays here in the UK and have over 130 X feature cars on the books. I organise displays at all the big shows in the UK and also have merchandise for sale such as the early bug jam videos from 1988 onwards all remastered onto DVD or whatever format you need. T shirts, stickers and tons of rare mags.

If someone can show me how to post a pic, u shall see the bug in all its glory. Im currently running a golf Gti which has been US spec'd with all red rear lights and clear lenses. Sitting on polished teardrop alloys.

Looks like a good place, shall stick around and see what u guys are like.

I'm about an hour north of Sydney on the beautiful Central Coast.

Being North London, are you an Arse fan or a Spurs fan?

Welcome to the group where Most Australian VW owners are members.....
Your 74 really looks like a German 66 beetle with the early lights etc plus large windows....
We had small glass here until late 1968.... Beetles were made in Australia up till then... so We had the 1964 Beetle until 1968 - only change was the 1300 engine....

You are unfortunate to have the major Rust problems over there with the chemicals put on the Icy roads... Our shock towers etc rarely need replacing due to rust.... I have never seen a rusted shock tower... but then I polish and paint My shock towers...

I put a thread on about top Aus cars, and was happy to see some normal cars and not OTT vintage 70s cal look all over the place.

The UK scene has some diverse styles, but the last 10 years has been dominated by the vintage 70s cal look. Was a good thing at first, but now got very very stale.

I hunt for X feature show cars from the past 15 yrs and bring them back, and put them in there own parade of champions. So successful is that its now in the 5th year. Over 130 cars which were well known back in the day are on my books. Most of the cars on the books are Cal Look of the 80s/90s which over here in certain publications has been shunned as a bad style. So its nice to bring together a display, which has more cars than the show n shine at the largest show in the UK, and hear those going "I remember that one" or "Wow havent seen that before". Gives people incentive to build, and not clone themselves with the same color paint, the same wheels etc.

October VW Motoring gives a 2 page article on me and what its all about.

Yeh,

I like your yellow as well, looks very quiet.
One thing I have fouind here is that people aren't afraid to build what they want :D, there may be a little crap fly about personal taste, but in the end we all seem to get along (even if some of us do liek slammed, polished and modified over original :P... even Lee's engine lol, just kidding Lee, I actually like it)

Backto89 - January 9th, 2005 at 10:23 AM

Thats probably the reason why im sittin on this forum, as its more to my taste.

I dont mind different opinions, we all like different things, Its when mags start trying to rewrite history and shun styles that many grew up as Cal Look as something of a fashion disaster that gets me a lil :cussing.

Perhaps if they hadnt featured everything at the time without chrome trim, and painted pink and written about as cal look, they may have a case. But they didnt....and you cant have it both ways.

Many really were in awe with the 70s cal look, but there are other chapters of cal look. I shant continue with my negative spin, just that its a huge bugbear and about time someone wrote a piece on the 80s cal look, to set the record straight in a positive way.

Again thats why most of your cars on the other thread appeal to me, as they are kinda what I grew up on and look to be continuing in oz very strong.

;)

Off my soap box now...nothing to see hear...move along lol
