eldirado - June 14th, 2005 at 11:45 PM

Hi all,

Just found out about this website from a fellow V8 Kombi builder. When I figure this all out I will put some pics up of the project. It is a Leyland 4.4/Auto Setup in a Campmobile, the old trusty LBR80R aka Gertrude.

eldirado - June 16th, 2005 at 07:07 PM

Hi all,

Glad to see the interest from like minded people, will get the photos up ASAP, just being hammered with work at the moment.....so sorry about the delay and stay tuned.

Oh yeah its an Orange one by the way, and it has never been to Indian Automotive yet ! I dealt with Mike at CBB for the Tranny rebuild/strengthening and Torque convertor........as for the rest of it its either my own work and more importantly "I get by with a bit of help from my friends"

Hi Dave, good to see you become a member, did our conversation at my party inspire you.
Hope you and Jen are feeling better.
What ever happened to the air cooled motor that died.

Brett (Millthorpe)

eldirado - June 22nd, 2005 at 10:38 AM

Brett,

How are you mate....love the new awning out the back, that slab looks about ready to have a splitty resto staring on it !
The following weekend I met a guy in the forum wacked1 and bought his water cooling system off his kombi, he mentioned the forum too so I thought I had better join.
We both still have the left overs of the flue but are nearly over it.
The 1800 motor is under the house, I havent decided what to do with it yet, I like the looks of your genny though.
I am also in the process of getting another Campmobile (2lt Auto).
How would you feel about building a supercharged vw motor with me ?

Dave

Brett - June 22nd, 2005 at 12:19 PM

I have been reading the super charging thread in one of the other fourms. It seems very complicated (if you do it properly). Nothing alot of research and blind faith could not overcome. The more I read the less cost effective it seems to get more HP out of a air cooled motor. Makes the laylend v8 a really good idea.
Super charging is a Nice idea though.
As for a splity reto, I would love to. I have 1 that I want, but the farmer wont sell, 57/58 all complete, straight, rust in the normal locations. I now of another, which I am trying to get more info on. I bought a beatle of him for a carton of bear, and I could have the splitty as well for another carton but I did not have the space at the time. I plan to contact him soon and see if it is still there.
What I would like to do however is a Baja Type 3 fasty. I saw one in rally spec and thought it would be great.
Ahh Dreams
Say hi to Jen for us Brett

eldirado - June 22nd, 2005 at 03:14 PM

I wouldnt have considered it but the new 2.0l Kombi has a modified fuel injection manifold on it with a single 2 barrel carby off a datto, so I figure I'm half way there. I figure I could just stick a small supercharger off an imported jap engine. I got this bus off Kendall, who use to own the ombi zoo, this was the cars owners intention till he ran out of money and I got it cheap.
I'll talk to Kendal and see whats involved as I know he has done a few, including the tourist ride trikes that get around the mountains.
That Baja Type 3 sounds good, I think the Kombis going that way and when the time comes I will pick up my Baja beetle thats been hiding at a mates property for the last 5 years or so....
Say hi to Tara & Ethen for us....I was surprised at how big he is...a real little person !

Brett - June 23rd, 2005 at 08:28 AM

I am alittle confussed, the motor is set up for fuel inijection but is currently running a carb set up.
I assume the thought would be to run the furl injection, Ie: install the injectors and a computer.
Then run a blow though system on the charger. If the manafold is there you have 1 part sorted.
Still need the injection, blower, computer, and all the new pulleys ect to drive it.
I would love to help as much as possible, keep me up to date.
I love the look of Baja Kombis, if ever we get to travel around Aus. That would be the way to go.
Talk to you soon.
Brett

eldirado - June 23rd, 2005 at 12:29 PM

I mean it just has the intake manifold off a fuel injected kombi. I just spoke to hime and he said we would have to modify that manifold, shim/decompress the heads and whack it on. I am going to get the Kombi no Saturday so I'll keep you posted.

Heres a couple of photos of the Green Machine, I hope Gertrude doesnt get upset.
