Beetles suck
uberhitzt - August 3rd, 2005 at 08:35 PM

Hey all, now that i have your attention....
I'm Heidi, i live in brisbane and i'm a beauty therapist. I have a 1962 cal look beetle that my partner gave me because it came spare with his 1959 beetle. Did i mention that the engine never overheats....

wow its totally air cooled:punk:

uberhitzt - August 3rd, 2005 at 08:42 PM

So, what do you all think?
Anyway... that's not my main dilemma (believe it or not!!!). What i would really like ideas about it were to put my rear indicators. As you can see the rear wheel arches are repro. therefore nice and smooth. I would like to take full advantage of this and keep the smooth cal look shape thingy... So i intend to run tear drop lights... but where to put the indicators???? thanx all

harley bullets on the bumper totally! that way you dont have to cut sfa, maybe a few brackets to make but puh thats easy. that's a sweet lookin ride there Heidi

VWCOOL - August 3rd, 2005 at 08:48 PM

I have mine behind the air vents below the back window... A bastard to fit but you don't know they are there until they are on. Mine are cheapo square trailer lamps, but there are some super-bright, super-small LED lights you coukld consider installing

uberhitzt - August 3rd, 2005 at 08:53 PM

hey Vwcool.
I did consider that. But... How do you get the lights up in there!!!???? And then secure them in place?

good for many miles down hill yeah..

I have small fingers!

My car is an Oval, so I think there is more room than later cars to squeeze hands/lights up from the sides of the engine bay. If I was to do it again, I would use LED lights mounted to removable panels accessed from within the car, cut into the metal below the rear window and sealed. In fact, I might do this anyway...

PS: I HATE any VWs with no lights on the guards.... they look unfinished. Put Oval lights on it...nn[ Edited on 4-8-2005 by VWCOOL ]

I saw you crusing up through berowra the other day, oval looked great, i did not see those lights till u used the blinker, im thinking I will use that position also... phores are not enuff..

Robo - August 4th, 2005 at 05:27 PM

Yeah put Oval lights on it!
Rob...

uberhitzt - August 4th, 2005 at 08:43 PM

I wasn't planning on running bumpers.... So, is that where you would mount these 'bullet" lights? If so.... slight issue of getting a bumper.... cuting bumper mounting holes etc. :spin: :duh

Secondly, i just think that VWcool, Warb and Robo are being bias towards oval rear lights because they all drive ovals themselves. :P

Thanx heaps for your help ALL, you really have helped with ideas. :!: I was feeling a bit stuck. And HA, to all you reading who just got sucked in by the subject title.:P

mscabrio - August 5th, 2005 at 09:42 AM

I too love the smooth guard look and yes I have an oval! I currently have the indicators in the back vent section and I personally don't like it, so I am in the process of changing them over to Harley Bullet indicators. Those people at Harley Davidson must be making a killing over us VW people !

P.S Welcome to the forum !:kiss

What about Teardrop lights that Hot Rodders use!
Has anyone got any pics of these?

Newbie - August 6th, 2005 at 11:04 PM

The Teardrop rearlights are the ones Heidi wants to fit.....

Fossil - August 10th, 2005 at 05:20 PM

just make if you're not going to run bumpers you check with Transport first as they are getting strict on new registrations after a car has been de-registered or brought from iinterstate

Fossil - August 10th, 2005 at 05:21 PM

Damn - welcome to the forum

uberhitzt - August 23rd, 2005 at 08:02 PM

Thanx fossil, that's good advice.
My partner was under the impression that as long as no parts stuck out past the body work and caused a danger to pedestrian (ie. pea shooters) that it was OK. But i will look into it more, just to check. :vader I might have to fight the evil Queensland Transport... doom doom doooom "the dark side"
