Hi all,
Just joined after getting a mysterious text message recommending this site.
Recently bought a '74 Kombi, my first air-cooled. All was going well until I drove to Melbourne on the Princes Highway, when evidence of deep
unhappiness from my engine became apparent.
All attempts at a fix ultimately futile (poor compression, shot valves, oil everywhere) and an expensive new engine needed. Ah well.
Thanks to (presumably) the mysterious owner of the oval window beetles on St. Mark's Road for the introduction ;-)

Welcome Sean
Well .......doesnt sount too happy a joining party.
I am sure in years to come you will find this funny
Things will get better ....... and you will enjoy the air cooled world
It may seem like a harsh introduction to VW's, but one that you will certainly come to love with great enthusiasm.
I know the pain of an engine failure at an untimely moment. On a vw cruise once, my vw sucked an exhaust valve at 70mph on the Hume Hwy about 20kms
before Seymour. Made one hell of a bang too!!!! (and several others as the rest of the engine rapidly destroyed itself from the inside out!!). My
beloved origional engine went out with a bang and had to be replaced. Bummer...
Thanks to a vw organ donor, I now have a newly built engine which will give me years of use and many fun weekends spent coaxing it into life
(C'MON!!! START!! I HAVE TO GET TO WORK TOMMOROW!! ^&*(*@%!!!!).
:alien
It could be worse...I could be stuck inside arguing with the wife about who gets the remote control!!!!
:kiss
