yet another newbie with stupid questions!
sasquatch - May 16th, 2006 at 08:08 PM

Hi Guys,

Im moving to NSW (newcastle initially) in November as` I've had enough of all year rain, cold water surfing and salt on the roads rusting my bus (kombi!) to bits!

When I arrive I'll be looking to buy a squareback or early beetle and I've become additcted to looking at your car sales sites. I'm a little confused (easily done!) about what car ownership involves in Australia, all this talk of pink slips, rego, registration, roadworthy etc etc! Are there implications for buying vehicles interstate?

Help a poor little pom out! (please!) Any advice will be gratefully recieved.

cheers

paul

for nsw rego it will require a blueslip then a green. the next year it will need a pink slip.
how early a bug are you after as my old man has a 67 in taree which is only 2 hours away from newcastle

welcome man.. how come newcastle?
car registration for queensland is a road worthy certificate( basic standards of road worthiness) then pay $ to transport govt deptment and then just a rego payment yearly.. no more inspections.. hooray!
plus more sweet surf spots between the gold coast and sunshine coast thats for sure..
plus its warmer
when do you arrive in oz anyway..?

thanks guys...

Newcastle cos I have family there and I can live their rent free while i decide where between newcastle and brisbane I want to live.... so many lush spots. Liked Coffs area... Drove the distance a couple of years ago (hire car!!!!! will be more fun aircooled!)

Certainly 67 beetle or earlier would suit, I like cal look or lowered stock but not really into heavily modded stuff, or ultra shiney paint! I don't mind a rat/patina worn in look as long as rat isn't a translation for rust bucket!!!!

Will be interested in anything that comes up from start of November onwards, I won't need any encouragement to travel to find the right one either!

I'm expecting my visa in the next couple of weeks then I'm booking the one way tickets!:bounce

.. You guys are so lucky to live in a beautiful part of the world!
