G'Day from Darwin
Taz Devil - February 6th, 2007 at 09:26 PM

G'Day

Just thought I would say G'Day. I have recently purchased a '69 Beetle and with help of Bone Collector (thanks) did a few things and now it is my daily driver.

Look forward to the future.

Cool dude...it's all infectious hey :thumb

And here Pete is leaving us all.....:cry

Taz Devil - February 6th, 2007 at 09:44 PM

it is a pity he's leaving. It was great having a font of knowledge directly across the road!!

VWCOOL - February 6th, 2007 at 10:13 PM

reub - February 7th, 2007 at 08:57 PM

Coming up again hey...be good to meet

VWCOOL - February 7th, 2007 at 09:54 PM

yeah, no worries, will be up there for a week or two

VWFREAK - February 8th, 2007 at 01:13 PM

Looks like Taz Devil (Adam) has been bitten by the bug, big time.

The day after hae purchased the car he had already place an order with George from Classic VW and exspressed posted them to Darwin. Over a period of a weekend, we had ripped the engine oput for a snappy overhaul and pretty up, new clutch and adjusters, full brake overhaul, floor pan clean up and rust proofing, electrics tidy up, Empi trigger shifter and linkage over haul, full tune up and adjustments and the list goes on.

The car was a steel at $1000 with rego and with the additional $$$ Adam has thrown into it has produced a really solid daily runner.

Looks like 2 tone paint job is on the way too, with a lot of extra bling

I'll post a couple of pics from the day he bought it and Adam will post the updated picks as they become avalible.

Sure will miss the Darwin VW scene.

VWFREAK - February 8th, 2007 at 01:19 PM

VWFREAK - February 8th, 2007 at 01:20 PM

VWCOOL - February 8th, 2007 at 01:43 PM

Looks nice - and a bargain, too

Taz Devil - February 8th, 2007 at 07:28 PM

Thanks Pete, I almost forgot what it looked like on day 1. Did we really do that much.

Attached are some more photos...

Taz Devil - February 8th, 2007 at 07:33 PM

and here are some more....

VWFREAK - February 8th, 2007 at 08:30 PM

She's well on the way. Should come up a treat after the door is replaced and the 2 tone is done.

Good luck, you'll need it now you've been bitten by the bug.lol

reub - February 9th, 2007 at 05:47 PM

Well on the way alright...good stuff

To think that the car was heading for the scrap heap not so long ago as well...

ancientbugger - February 9th, 2007 at 08:05 PM

That looks pretty clean for a car that must be around forty years old!! And for a thousand dollars you must be well chuffed.

VWFREAK - February 9th, 2007 at 08:28 PM

He's chuffed alright, wait until he gets the stainless exhast sytem on his little baby.

Also thanks Reub for hooking Adam up with the new running boards.

Taz Devil - February 9th, 2007 at 09:52 PM

Hey Reub. Yep thanks for the running boards. May need some slight adjustment to make them fit. Nothing ever goes as planned.

Chuffed. To say the least. I can't believe I finally found one. I thought I was destined to, dare I say it, drive a barina...

It's ok, for all of you who want to slap me for saying that, I did it myself.

reub - February 9th, 2007 at 11:22 PM

...thanks for the reference to a Barina mate...

I came accross heaps of late beetles for sale but wanted an early one for the right money. Waited over 2 years to find the 58 and scored a 56 as well....worth driving a barina around for a while I'd suggest

Taz Devil - February 10th, 2007 at 10:11 PM

Hey mate

The reference to a Barina was in no way mocking people who drive them, it's just that there was one for sale down the road. It was just that I had my heart/mind/body/soul set on one.
:)

Taz Devil - February 11th, 2007 at 09:53 PM

beetle bug that is!!

reub - February 11th, 2007 at 10:00 PM

I was going to comment...but didn't  Glad you cleared it up

So, what are your plans for the car?

Taz Devil - February 13th, 2007 at 09:33 PM

Well, Pete and I just installed the new exhaust. Sounds much better, not quite the John Deere Tractor that it sounded like.

After that I am going to tidy the interior up. Needs new carpet may seat covers for the moment, the roof lining is ok but I think it will get a new one of them as well.

Exterior: going to leave as is for the moment as it is parked in the open all day and I find that the elements ruin the paintwork quicker than you can paint it. :(

I must say the spead in the latest VW mag is great on your car!!

VWCOOL - February 14th, 2007 at 08:40 AM

hey guys do you know there's going to be a POWERCRUISE at Hidden Valley in April?

Taz Devil - February 14th, 2007 at 07:45 PM

Nah wasn't aware. Unfortunately I won't be in Darwin in April, I will be in Pt Augusta in S.A.

Here are some pics now that a few more improvements have taken place.

Cheers for now
