Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and would like to introduce
my self. Im Jules, I have just bought my first 1971 superbug and Im in love!!! I need some advice please, some help and just some chit chat about this
vehicle. Iv always wanted a bug for many years and now that I have one just want some contacts to see all goes well with the ole boy!! Im after a Good
mechanic, I think I need more power in my little engine it is a 1600 (sorry if it all sounds so girly, but I dont know much about engines, but Im a
quick learner) I would like to get the interior done: my front seats are shot, and the roof and carpets are a bit neglected and maybe down the track
get a good respray. So any info in regards to this would be fantastic. Also when do you have your DAY outs or club meets I would like to attend to get
to know some of you and to mull over some things about my new little addition.
Hi Jules, welcome to the forum and where in Oz are you??? that will help determine who can advise you on mechanics and clubs etc:thumb:

If you are in Sydney - you are in luck. Big show this Sunday
welcome to vw madness
Hi there, sorry I was detained with work and life in general stuff and have just got on to the site and want to say thankyou for your replies, well
yes I live in Sydney Box Hill to be precise. I obviously missed the show...ho hum...is there anymore that is coming up, so I can put it on my diary?
can anyone else help me out Im trying to find bucket seats that will fit my 71 beetle, due to a bad accident and a sore neck (that is now playing up)
I find that driving with the original seats, I get no neck/head support, I know this will ruin the originality of the vehicle (as I wanted to keep it
as original as possible) but my health comes first, so if you can direct me to a site, place of sale that would be great.. cheers Jules
Welcome Jules,
best to put Your location in Your user info so everyone will know, otherwise they will be asking all the time...
You can fit many different seats from many different vehicles to Your beetle...
the bottom of the original seats is cut off and welded to the bottom of the new seats...
I saw a beetle with beautiful seats yesterday, and they were from a subaru impreza...
many people fit Honda or VW Golf seats...
Seeing You are in Sydney...
best to join the Club VeeDub Sydney Inc.

thanks guys, all the info is fantastic! I joined up with the Vee Dub club yesterday, so no doubt I will be seeing you all soon. I need a new
(reconditioned) drag link, I sourced one from melbourne for $150, does anyone think this is expensive?? seeing as though I am new to this bug game I
need some sound advice. thankyou!! have a happy new year and see you all soon. regards Jules
hey jules save ya pennies for august and valla later this year worth the trip up tp nsw and you will meet heaps of vw nuts alike..
NUTS....did you say NUTs.....I like that... I did join the right club then he he!! Tell me more what is happening in August where in NSW? who what
when?? Im in!!
Hi Jules
There is no wrong club. Each club has a different personalty, go to a few meetings and get togethers and see how you get along, if you dont like it
try another club. I'm a member of Club VeeDub Sydney and dont be put off by this, so is VW54, he's actually the president and so are many other
people on here. When you come to a meeting let me know so I can say hi.
VW Spectacular 2008 is held on August 1st - 4th at Valla Beach NSW, just north of Nambucca Heads.
Steve
thankyou for that, I will say hi and yes I will go to Valla Beach, know it well I used to live up that way. Do we organise accomodation or is there a group booking? regards Jules
Hi Jules
There is on site accommodation but its usually booked out in advance from year to year. There is usually accommodation in Nambucca which not far
away.
Steve
cheers! I will endeavour to get on the telephone and book something soon. are you going too?
Hi
I will be there for sure. I'm trying to finish a car for it but I think it wont be done in time.
Steve
good luck with it, what do you have? I have a 71 super bug, needs a little work too, I found myself a good mechanic, so Im booking in for a good over haul in January just to get a few things attended to. Can you give me a bit of advice please, can you tell me where I would get a drag link from? Iv sourced one from melbourne at the a vintage car place, they said they would have it for me the day after I called, I have heard nothing to date and that was 2 weeks ago. I suppose this mechanic will know, but if I can get a head start on some parts that I need and someone who is in the know, that would be a bonus. cheers
Hi Jules
I have 2 bugs sort of, one a 74 L bug I have now given it to my 16 year old son, its my daily driver for now. I'm building another L bug, its a 73. I
have a few used drag links laying around, would that be any use? If not try Vintage Veedub supplies in Campsie, 9789 1777
Also regarding Valla accommodation, try calling Donna on 0427-695-203, she's the lady that organises the whole thing.
Steve
Hi Jules,
sorry i don't know much about 1303S Super beetles...
even though I did own one back in the seventies...
best to shop around for everything...
Many times, a good used German part is much better then using a NEW Mexican [YUK] or New Brazillian part..
some brazillian parts are OK... but many are just rubbish..
its good to have a VW mechanic who knows how to find inexpensive good quality parts...
in the US & UK many vw parts sellers indicate where each part comes from ; BR = Brazil DK = Denmark
MX = Mexico GR German US = USA UK= UK
I hope to meet You at Valla/ Nambucca heads in August.
