Hi everyone

im new to the vdub scene, built a few cars though. ke20 corolla, among others and saw a fenderless vw beetle in u-pull-it in elizabeth and thought to myself that would make an awesome rod not knowing that its been done before and is actually quite popular! i started searching for info online about it and have found many photos that have made me go, "yup, thats what i wanna do!"

at the moment i dont have a beetle yet and as im saving for my wedding i probably wont be getting one for a while but im always on the look out just in case the right one comes along! i have heaps of questions about them like where in oz do i get a front end extender from etc. i sourced one from the uk but it works out to about 800 bucks to get it here. id like to slowly start getting the little things together maybe so when i can buy the car ill be able to make a good start! any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hello amd welcome mate, I lived in Adelaide for 7 years. Not a bad spot, just a bit too cold for me.

Volksfest was on this weekend with a show and shine at the Port today. Hope you went as there was plenty of inspiration, a few VWs for sale and plenty of advice on offer.

ive lived in adelaide my whole 19 years and since i got my beetle in may 08 ive noticed more and more around but them problem is finding ppl that specalize in vws (beetle) if your any wear near waterloo corner wreckers i hear theres some beetles for wreck in there also that little place called port wakefeild drove through there last month noticed a wrecking yard had a few beetles in it but there was one that looked road worthey (to an extent) out the front and i think it was fro sale apperantly there is an old guy on fendon rd never in his shop but you grab his number and call him he will help you out o and edwards town on south rd apparently theres some one that dose vws there i found this out frm my tow truck driver (had to tow my bug to cover on sat) nice guy tho any way good luck

There's a few old school VW specialists around town:

GHR motors in Mitchell Park (who I use)
Volksfactory and another (whose name I've forgotten at the moment) in the north
even Cartek on South Rd near the Cross Road Bridge (the old Vee Dub Centre).

There's also a couple of parts stores: On on main north road, and another on south road near castle plaza.

They could all offer advice I would imagine.

Then there's ebay and other users here who might have harder to find parts. Getting some new stuff from the US can be cheaper than getting it locally even including postage (though I'm not sure now that the $$ has dropped).

ill be sure to do some more research to try and find myself the right beetle for the job!

im sitting here and wondering about the rod and find myself thinking about the front beam extension. anybody know the rules in sa regarding these kinds of mods? extended front, open wheeler or cycle gaurds etc. whats needed in the interior. those kinds of things.

any help appreciated.

As for the beam extensions,I'm not sure.
I was told on another site that cycle guards are a minimum requirement if you take the standard ones off yet the best way is to get on Transport SA's website and have a look around.

What sorta cash are you wanting to spend charl?
Theres a decent baby blue 67 near where i load up for work at Richmond.Think it was around $1300 when my mate asked a few weeks ago.Still there.
And its 12 volt too i think (Thats worth nearly a grand to do on its own i am told)
I think the paint is a bit average (crazed and a little bit of rust) but the motor is ok apparently (heard that before!)
I'm getting told 2nd hand though mate.I havent had a close look at it but itd be a good rat i reckon

Great to see the Adelaidians taking over.
From my experiences, helpful folk in the scene are:
GHR Motors at Mitchell Park....Steve an Siggy are good guys willing to help, they have kept Boris running.
Debiassi's at Pooraka are great for performance (I have been told).

You can't beat George at Classic VeeDub in Sydney for parts, great range, great website and reasonable freight costs.

For your beam and other custom gear, try Aaron at Old School Kustoms. He did my 4" narrow beam and is an absolute champ and he's fussy. He is also a one man band with lotsa work so you may need to be a bit patient.

I like your plans, good to think outside the square. Also, The Volks Enthusiasts club may be a good reference too, although I have never joined.

well at the moment i am saving cash for my wedding next year so this is all going into a folder of information and concept drawings etc. as i wont be able to buy a car till after that has gone down. so ive got about 10 months to plan and research this project.

at least we can agree that by then i should be well prepared!!

as for those contacts, ill be adding them into my folder straight away!

but if by some miracle i happen upon some major cash from somewhere ill definitely be starting this alot sooner.

Watch out for boris mate.He's a bit dodgy! (Just joking,he's helped me no end!)
I can vouch for GHR Motors.Theyre great blokes and are willing to help out newbies to vw's.
They have saved me from beating the crap out of my beetle with annoying little problems when i first got it.
Same as Debiasi guys.I have heard nothing but good reports about them.They build some crazy fast vw's thats for sure!

I had a quick look at the 67 beetle i mentioned in prior post.I'm no expert but its not bad for the money dude.
Its all there with minimal rust,12volt,headlight eyebrows etc.
A cheap entry into vw's anyway.Just slam it and cruise!
Found a mob in Melbourne that do changeover adjustable and narrowed beams for $600 (plus delivery i imagine)
