biddi - August 22nd, 2009 at 08:14 PM

My friend adjusted the push button catch on my Beetle, closed it and now it wont open. How can I access it to try and do something to fix it. :fakesniff:

okies how closed? is it stuck?
Like is it completely closed (aka locked doesn't move an inch?) or is it the slightly unlocked where you can push the button on the bonnet and move it up and down?

Get one person to push down on the bonnet then you pull and push the release ball thing then get him to (try to) push the button down and try to pull it up.

Hi

If you have the lever in the glove box pull the lever to the passenger side and get a little more travel.

You can also cut the handle in 2 places to unscrew it.

Before you cut the handle try operating the lever in the glovebox then try to open the lid,if it won't open pull the bonnet sideways with the handle and then to the other side at the same time giving it a slap on the side near the handle. I assume that he only adjusted the pin,in which case you may also try pushing down whilst operating the release lever. Good luck Les

68 was the last year the cable was still under the dash
it may be the conduit is moving instead of the cable

what u need is someone to push down on the hood, while another pulls hard on the cable then try and open

if that fails this is what you have to resort to
