Hi there, I saw a link to your forum on another website. After a good look around I thought I'd sign up & get involved & where possible offer any help or advice that I can. After 11 years of owning various aircooled VW's I'm currently driving a 1974 1200 Bug which I brought about 6 months ago. She needed a fair amount of work (more than I thought when I brought her) but after some hours doing some 'practise welding' she's now welded up, re-wired & on the road.........Just in time for the British winter.

I'll get some photo's posted up later today as I'm at work at the moment, thanks.

Hi
Welcome to the Aussie Summer... lol 42.5C here today.. lol

luckily, We can still find beetles that don't require welding the chassis and body etc... lol

Looking forward to Your pics of a 1974 1200 beetle...

which would be a NON Super... maybe standard beetle in the UK..??

Cheers for the welcome, it's bearly above freezing here & we've got snow on the way.....Great fun in a Bug  You'd be right. She's a standard 1200, here's a couple of photo's

She's had pre '67 panels put on at some point, which I prefer if I'm honest. Running a stock 1200 engine & carb, adjustable beam (lowered) & front disk brake conversion, running on Centreline rims with a Bugpack exhaust. Interior is stock with a CD player added, couple of 6x9's on the rear shelf & a pre amp'd sub that's getting fitted over the Xmas holiday.

Love the colours!!!

welcome and enjoy

steff...............

Hi Steff..........That's bizarre! Love Baja's, something I've always promised myself I'd get but never had the cash when one's been available (usual story)

Don't talk to me about MK Dons........Or Wimbledon FC as they should be known, never been to match & I was a Wimbledon fan as well.

DubCrazy - December 18th, 2009 at 06:54 AM

Kinda crappy isnt it, i just dont follow anyone any more, i do keep an eye on wimbeldon afc just out of intrest as i would like to see them over take the MK dons but its not the same, they dont have the crazy gang style/image.

still its only football right!!!!!!!!!:grind:

i always sadi i would have a baja when i was still in the uk but never did but its pretty much all i've owned since moving here as i live in the sticks and it makes perfect sence to have an offroad toy rather than a streeter u knows.

what plans do u have for ur weapon??

steff.............

Dungbug - December 18th, 2009 at 07:08 AM

I know what you're saying bud, only football but you can still get :grind: over it

Nothing major in the pipeline for her at the mo, she's suffering with some end float. I reckon she's got a good 10k left in her with this engine (as long as I keep topping the oil up) so I'm looking to get a 2nd hand engine in the new year to do a strip & rebuild with so I'll have a replacement ready to drop in when she decides that enough is enough. I'll probably be another 1200 stocker, I've had hassle with non stock lumps, either poorly built or just bits changed instead of it being done from the ground up. To be honest the 1200's aren't too bad for everyday use, she's got a descent turn of speed......I prefer lookers than racers, must be my age creeping in.

How come You have a yellow rear license plate and a white front one???

are You allowed to make You own plates over there???

LEE

Dungbug - December 18th, 2009 at 06:56 PM

It's a legal requirement to have a white number plate on the front & a yellow one on the back. Any car that's pre 1973 can have a black plate with silver writing, I prefer these but I got fined when I had them on a previous '74 Bug.......Cops can be a pain sometimes!:grind:

Those plates are massive!!

Again they're a legal requirement, the UK is awash with speed camera's so you have to have big plates so they can see your registration number in a photo......Like I'd get a speeding fine in a 1200 Bug anyway

Yeah, known him for a few years now from when i lived in Cornwall...
We're both into oldskool rave music / dj'ing etc and met through another forum.
Never got to meet him though, unfortunately.
A few of his rellies are over here in Aus as far as i remember.
