Hi all,
my wife & I have been into VAG products for some time now with a Seat Cupra & a Mk V Golf in the garage at the moment but I've just had my
very own barn find (well shearing shed actually)!
I found a 70 1500 semi auto on my aunties farm in western NSW!! & it's mine to have. i've been looking for a project car for some time & an
excuse to extend the garage!
Anyway, I hope & need to learn heaps from you guys & girls as I head into my first aircooled restoration.
cheers
Phil
Welcome to AVD !!!
You can't just tell about a shed find tho man... where are the pics ???
70 1500 semi... pretty good model to have, and if it's been out West most of it's life it'll be better as far as rust goes than a city car... so
potentially a very nice score !!!
The semi auto can be a bit tricky - converting 'em over to manual is pretty common, but there's a few people on here who have stuck with and love
'em, and so now know all the tricks. (psst...where are you Lee ???)
What sort of resto are you thinking of.... staying basically correct and stock, or something a bit customised ???
Hi Phil,
Yes, the automatic beetle is a great car..
I would recommend you leave it auto as they are a tough item.
You probably need to replace all the vacuum hoses first...
a Great Find.... now that's an Auntie We all could do with.. lol
Post some pics of Your find...
its not something that happens everyday.. lol
WELCOME
Lee
Thanks for the welcome guys,
This is how it looked as I walked up to her
[img][/img]
so it's obvious that the engine missing
and then I see the drivers side..... & my heart sunk
as bad as it looks doors bonnet & boot all open & close without any problems
this still worries me...
this being my first beetle I'm open to your ideas about repairing this sort of damage. Being a country car the rest looks pretty good.
What I would like to do???????
I'm up for some modification & a particular look, sorry if I upset the traditionalist out there!
A reliable engine, I don't need big power, that's what my gti & tdi are for!
keep it auto or mod it to manual????? I'll think about that latter.
This is how I'd like it to look..
I know it may look ambitious & you have probably heard it all before, but I have the time, the budget, the ability, I hope (ex RAAF engine fitter
& current flight engineer), & most importantly my wife loves the idea!
Anyway, first thinks first...
is it worth saving?????
and if it is i've got to get it home to Sydney!
cheers
Phil
heres abit of history for you
this is it back in about 1993 when it was supposed to be my first bug
funny how they get around
Yep, heres my first car before paintjob
Post a piccie of what haaped to your othe bug joel...tree
thats a different bug your thinking of Josh, that was my actual first bug which was a 71 super and it was the other side that hit. this one was supposed to be my first a few years earlier than that one but the old man wouldnt get it for me cos the semi auto was playing up and we were told back then to avoid them
awwwwww i see looks like a good bug to start with. have fun workin on it
Hi
That looks fixable, the car looks like it has been modified in a past life, no chrome strips and non standard seats.
