New to Site and asking advice
60Beetle - January 31st, 2010 at 03:43 PM

I am new to this site and am wondering if someone can provide me with advice.

I am after a new or reconditioned engine for my 1960 beetle. I have restored the Beetle and just want a really reliable stock engine.

Does anyone have any knowledge of new imported engines (where to buy) or whether reconditioning my existing engine would be best. If reconditioning is better - where/who on or near the Sunshine Coast Qld?

You can buy the new motors from Custom Off Road in Stafford or Mick Motors which is a little closer.

You wont know untill you split the case. You will save a heap of dough if you can get away with a recon and reusing the good parts.
As for the recon work, try the local VW club for the low down of who's doing what in your area.

I too would recommend conti at bribie, mick motors at northgate, or custom vee dub (dyno is a good bloke!) I bought a motor off phonenix motors years ago and it was pretty god .... hope that helps.
