Greetings all.
I'm new to this VW forum but have spent time on others.

I'm looking for information about Subaru conversions so that I can make some educated decisions about my '77 microbus.
Not sure whether to rebuild the Type IV donk or go for a Subaru transplant.

I have a '71 Sopru converted lowlight and a '62 Beetle that will stay stock (ish) but I need the micro as a daily driver up and down hilly freeways every day.

Any advice, pointers, tales of woe/joy etc. will be welcome!

Ray and da Boyz,I too are frustrated with hilly freeways.Years ago,I learnt to drive in a microbus and now own a 89 Syncro that I am putting a Gen 3 EJ25 out of a Liberty.I too am knew to this forum.I have my Suby motor and most of the parts I need for this conversion.I got alot of info from the RJES site,Richard is a great help. There is also good info on the smallcar site. There is many options to choose from.Brent Weide has a good site. The SubaruVanagon site is good.Locally there are many guys in this forum with good info.I think Ray and his Boyz will have some long nights in front of the computer. If you do the conversion for less than 9 grand you have done well. You could spend that on a type 4 engine,I now it wont be as reliable as a Subaru. With a standard engine conversion you could gain up to 75% gain in Kw!Not bad for an old Kombi(there not race cars)Not bad bang for buck, not to mention reliability.Hope I havent offended to many puriests.

Hey Ray

Kombibob just put an EJ22 in Elconcreto. Why don't you get in touch with him?
