Hi Matt,

I have uploaded a photo of my Safari/Thing/Trekker .... my compliance engineer is telling me the chassis is not happy and I may need to replace it before I can get it registered ...so I am looking for a compatible chassis .... if anyone can help I would be very very grateful .... the problem is the old rust issue.

Welcome. What does he mean by chassis? Is it just the floor pans need replacing or the tunnel is rusting away or the frame head etc.

If it is just floor pans, I think the ghia floor pans fit things.

Are there many of these in Bali?

In Brisbane... with an unusual VW that is in need of help... hmmm... are you planning on coming to Action Day ???

This Sunday on The Esplanade at Wynnum... details are at http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=85271

If you are then ask around for me - you should spot my car Jezebel pretty easily, and I'm pretty well known in the club.

Your Safari is a VW type 182...
it will say that on Your identification plate in the boot..
basically made for the UK... Right Hand Drive...

the LHD type 181 was also called the VW thing in the USA....

does Yours have 4 stud or 5 stud wheels??

pics of axles... You may have an IRS rear end....
which is great....

76 is a late model..... maybe made in Mexico??

Right hand drive or LHD...??

there are a few of these in Australia..
although they weren't sold here...

Hi Yogie,

There are quite a few in Bali but disappearing very quickly .... lots of Americans and Japanese are buyong these for extremely high prices ... still cheap but for Bali expensive ... it appears the problem is in the body sills and the chassis ... I am waiting for the car to be stripped to find out the full story .. will keep you posted!

Cheers
