Hi ppl
Names Grant.
Dont currently have a Dub but soon hope to.
I use to have 3 beetles that i unfortunately had to sell due to a career changed.. i was restoring one, and building a Baja out of one and the other
one was a spare parts bug..
But i regret selling them ever since.. ive had all types of car since and found a passion in Subaru's... and then tried my hand at 4x4.. but find
myself coming back to a VW.. Im thinking i want to combine to 2 passions of a Dub and Subaru's or more to the point the EJ205 Motors... I know they
are a popular mod.. but i want to push the Boundaries a bit...
Im wanting to Build a Baja.. so im looking at what series Beetle are the more popular.. to start my project... so more so looking to say Hi and seek
some wisdom..
Cheers
Grant
Hi! Welcome back to the world of VW ownership. A Subaru-powered Baja sounds like an excellent project.
I'm not sure how much you may already know, but the key thing in choosing a bug to base your baja on is to get a torsion bar front end, as the
Superbug front ends aren't as tough and most baja kits are made for the non-super beetles. Other than that, the choice is pretty much up to you. 1976
or semi-auto models will give you the double CV joint IRS rear end, but other bugs can be converted over and a lot of off-roaders prefer swing-axles
anyway. If you want a car with factory disc brakes and 12 volt electrics then you'll want to look at post-'68 bugs, but a lot of people prefer the
look of the earlier cars. Whatever you buy, have fun!
welcome to here..
