Hey guys, been a member for a little while just having a look. So I thought I should say hello. I'm 14 and in N.S.W. =)
I've myself a 62' Bug, he's maroon red, and needs to be registered. The plan is to finish putting him all together and get it registered. After that, the plan is to eventually do a decent stereo system, dash redesigned, and eventually, a new paint job, the paint job can be done in bits, eg. fenders then deck lid ect. My father is a service manger and has access to a booth and supplies ect.
The only things that need to be done before it can be registered are wipers, front blinkers and lights need to be wired up correctly and the wipers have to be installed and wired ect. oh and door panels need to be made.
Pictures up soon! =)

Guys, I'd just like to ask for some info understanding stereo systems, what absolutely HAS to be installed? I'm looking for something pretty basic but packs a punch. On a budget. Could you also tell me some decent brands for the gear? Thanks James.

hi James and welcome to the fold, the obvious question is has it been converted to 12 volt as you are very limited in this regard with a 6 volt system. i am not able to advise you n this but a lot of others on this forum will,as I see it the sky is the limit as regards price and equipment and it all depends just what you want and can afford. Cheers Les

welcome to the forum I guess you need to consider whether you keep your bug as a 6Volt or convert to a 12 volt first. How much are you prepared to pay for a sound system? I bought a great kenwood (bluetooth and ipod compatable) with 4 speakers for $500

You should be able to get a decent stereo/head unit and 4 speakers which should sound great and make a respectable amount of noise for a pretty reasonable price. Do the install yourself and that will save some cash.

You could try somewhere like jb hifi for a package and twist their arm for a better price.

I'm fairly sure that it would be 6v not 100%. How pricey is converting to a 12v? I'd like to pay max I think for a full system around $1000 , preferably over time! All the boxes and kickpanel boxes ect I can make myself, I can glass and am fairly good with my hands so that isn't a problem, we have all the supplies as well.

To put in a full system i think you are going to need to upgrade to 12 volt maybe someone here can advise what that will cost

Okay, like I said, I don't really want to buy all of the system straight up, so if i do buy a head unit on its own say now, then say and amp in 6 months, then a sub in 6 months, will that be better/cheaper than buying a head unit and speakers ect in a set/one go?

I really doubt you can put a system with a secondary amp on a 6 volt car you really need to convert to 12 volts first

I have been fairly productive month! mocked up kick panel for the passenger side, fiberglassing tomorrow with a fuse/glove box in on the driver side. All pretty much coming together. :)
