My 16 year old son has finally made himself useful!! Having passed his Learners my wife is more than nervous about letting him
loose on the road. So to put her mind at ease we established a couple of rules, well many rules, but two that are of relevance here. He should learn
to drive in a manual so that it isn't treated like another video game and he should learn in a slow car ..... how about a Beetle?!?!
So Dad is reliving his youth and now has a '75 1600 L parked in the garage. He's a bit fatter than my last/first Beetle, a '68, and has a big arse
with the 'fat' tail lights, but that's probably a bit of a parallel with me 20+ years down the track. 'Sonny' makes all the right sounds, drives
well and after less than a week in the family is much loved.
He'll require an engine rebuild/replacement at some point, but for the time being I've been reading through the copy of How to Keep Your VW
Alive that I have owned since 1987 and given him some love to keep him happy.
All is good.
